Hello, I am in the process of starting a glycolic series on a client that has a lot of acne, and is Fitzpatrick 6. I am looking in the SS manual , and just wanted to know are we able to do extractions still, or is it not necessary and should I just let the glycolic do all the work? Right now she cant afford all the recommended products, so what would be a good start for her home care. Thanks everyone for your feedback:)

I always do extractions if they are needed after glycolic peels unless their skin is too sensitive, (which only has happened once). I always prefer to do a blemish mask of some sort after extractions, as it helps calm down the acne swelling from the extractions.  Do you make your own masks or purchase them? I prefer fresh made masks, and apple and egg whites make for a great mask for oily skin, or milk and lime/lemon, as does lemon juice and egg whites.

For home care on the cheap, here are a few suggestions:

Rosewater and lemon is said to be a very effective acne home remedy. Mix the juice of a fresh lemon with rosewater and leave on your face for a few minutes. Rinse off with pure water.

Gently apply the juice of fresh cut ginger to acne pimples once each day. The ginger acts to calm the acne inflammation and in a few days the eruption will subside.

Salt and water applied to the face will help reduce acne eruptions.

Vinegar and salt, mixed with water and applied to the face can help heal acne. The vinegar might be too intense for sensitive skin so test first!

Have your client drink a LOT of pure, clean water. Take their body weight and divide in two. That's the number of ounces you should be drinking every day. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink at 75 ounces of water each day, which a little over 9 cups of water.

Also they can try this: Drink a small amount of Braggs Organic Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar twice daily for one month. Some people swear by this, even when they have a case of severe acne. It's not very tasty, so drink some water right afterwards!

If they follow one or two of these, then their skin will clear up quite a bit. I have several woman at our school with similar skin types and conditions and they all are loving their skin now.

Hi LaToya - I do try to extract gently after a glycolic peel.  If they come easily, great.  However, if they don't come, don't force them, especially on your Fitz 6.  As far as the critical homecare products, I would use Glycolic Cleanser, Retinol Scrub, Ageless Hydrating Serum.
