Hi, I just ordered the mild acne kit from SkinScript.  I currently use the Bioelements Acne products but felt it was very pricey and I wasn't completely comfortable with the results.  I've noticed that you are combining glycolic with salicylic and feel this will be a great combination.  I'm wondering if my clients' skin with dry out too much, though.  Should they just use the products in the morning and use another cleanser at night?  I want to make sure they will be very happy and so many of them are afraid of dry/peeling skin from other products.  Also, will this work on Cystic Acne?  Thanks a Bunch!!!

Hi Rachel:

Very good questions!  Keep in mind that salicylic is a drying exfoliant.  Salicylic is an oil-based exfoliant and will break up and dissolve oil.  If someone has dry skin AND acne, I first consider the age of the client.  Teens are already shedding their skin cells quickly so they can't use anything too aggressive (such as the 17% glycolic cleanser).  I will generally put a teenager on the Mild Acne Kit - it's gentle enough that they can use the cleanser every day (adjust the usage on the blemish control toner pads based on their oil level).  Teens tend to do very well with a 2% glycolic/2% salicylic blend.

If the client is an adult with dry skin AND acne, I will lean that client towards the 17% glycolic cleanser used 3-4 times per week followed by the retinol scrub.

If the client is oily with or without acne (and regardless of age), I will put them on the Blemish line because the salicylic will start to dry the excess oil.

Keep an eye on your client.  If she/he becomes flaky, back off on the Blemish Control line (acne kit) and lean more towards Green Tea Cleanser and Retinol Scrub.

This is a complicated answer, but it's truly performing a good skin analysis first, then determining which ingredients will be best for their skin.  E.g.,  salicylics for oily/acneic, glycolics for mature aging and acneic skin, retinol scrub for sensitive, acne and aging skin.

Regarding your question about cystic acne, yes, the Acne Kit (Blemish Line) is good for cystic acne.  I've seen it do wonders for cystic acne; however, it's not skin care alone that will resolve cysts, it's internal healing (e.g., diets, stress levels, exercise, etc.)

Thank You so much for answering my questions.  I have been using SkinScript's Enzyme peels.  I started with the Blueberry Enzyme and that was such a huge success that I reordered it and 3 other types.  My clients seem to be catching my enthusiasm for your line!

I have more and more young clients 10-16 yrs that come in because their parents are comfortable with me and want me to educate their children on skin care.  Your products are filling in the need for affordable, effective skin care and I would like to use more of your products on them and sell them retail.  What is your best advice on how to care for their skin using the SkinScript line?

Thank You, Lisa!

Rachel:  I'm so glad you are enjoying the Skin Script line!

Regarding your question on caring for teen skin, I would stick with the Mild Acne kit and/or green tea cleanser with retinol scrub (plus appropriate moisturizer and sunblock).    For your professional treatments, I use the Cranberry Turnover (20% salicylic peel) on active acne.  I like your idea of the Blueberry (which already has 1% glycolic, 1% salicylic), but I also use the Coconut Papaya enzyme a lot as it will provide a gentle exfoliation, allowing for extractions, without any trauma to the young skin.

You are providing a great service to these teens for caring for their skin.  It was someone like you who taught me how to care for me skin when I was 14 yrs old.
