I have been happily using the Lactic and Glycolic peels with my enzymes and feel like I have a good handle with when and why I would use them.

But I have the 10% TCA and rarely have a client that I use it on...

My question is, can I use the TCA as a booster? And when/why would I do that?

I am thinking that it would enhance product penetration of serums/masque. But would I expect any "peeling"?

Hi Cindy,

Dave here responding as Lisa is out training on the east coast.

Our TCA is great for re-texturizing the skin and is regulated by the number of layers applied. Azelaic acid is great for darker-skinned patients, who have melasma or whose acne spots leave persistent brown spots. The combination of these acids is a beautiful peeling treatment for evening skin tone, reducing acne and retexturing the skin

What type of skin is TCA good for? Skin with hyperpigmentation, melasma, and/or acne. Can be used on Fitzpatrick 4-6 when properly prepped with pre-treatments. (see the Skin Script manual)

You could use the TCA as a booster with an enzyme as well. In this case, the clients skin should be resilient as the TCA will make the enzyme more active. Of course, by adding the TCA the client could expect some mild flaking. (Remember, the Skin Script TCA is formulated to be gentle, so the client may not see any visible peeling)

Why would you boost and enzyme? You boost as a way to up-level the exfoliation properties of the enzyme. Typically, you reserve boosting until after the client has had an enzyme application and you are assured that they do well with an enzyme treatment. Safety prevails!

Hope this helps!

Yes it does!

Everyone that knows me knows that I am a very careful/cautious exfoliatrix!

I start everyone on a non-acid enzyme and move up from there. I typically will boost an enzyme before I do a straight peel. And I have never boosted the Lemon Zest or Pumpkin because I find both are pretty powerful on their own!

In the beginning I did a Lemon Zest on myself followed by a lactic peel, because that was a similar protocol to the line I was previously using. Whooo boy was I surprised! That taught me to work each client up to the proper exfol. for their skin at a pace that makes sense.

Thanks for being such a generous educator!

Hi Cindy and Thank you Dave !

I have recently been using the TCA as a spot treatment for HP  on a few of my clients and getting great results. (after the peel or facial I apply to spots. I start with the 1-2 layers and see how there spot react to this from week to week or month to month)

I have not boosted an enzyme as of yet . I also start my ladies on the lower side of exfoliation to see how there skin reacts and we go from there.

Hi Dave great info.

Just wondering when you say good for skin with acne is that the PIH , scarring or still active acne?

for home care after a peel or the TCA do we want the client to really moisturize the skin and keep it hydrated or do we really want the skin to stay dryer and flake or peel ?

Thanks again Dave

Hi Cindy....just wondering, when you say you boost your enzyme with a peel, does that mean that you add the acid to your enzyme, or apply am acid peel after the enzyme treatment.... I do the latter.

Yes Madalene - adding the peel WITH the enzyme.

Look at the Skin Script training schedule - I have taken several of the webinars and attended a live product knowledge class. They have some of the best training!

Hi Madalene, (and Cindy)

Dave here from Skin Script. You are correct!

Boost (Blend) = Add and mix in an acid of your choice to the enzyme. Process and remove with barber wrap or aesthetic wipes. Boosting and enzyme with acid dilutes the effect of the acid.

Layer = Apply an enzyme and let it process. Remove the enzyme and then apply your choice of acid on the skin, let it process and then neutralize.  Layering an acid on the skin after the enzyme intensifies the effect of the acid.

Hope this helps!

Dave

It depends on the client - but I will actually use the term "boost" your enzyme exfoliation. For my more timid clients I say I will "buffer" the peel with an enzyme (maybe not factually correct, but they get it!)

HI Cheryl,

TCA is good for all the above! Our 10% TCA is gentle and effective for calming hormonal acne and really does double-duty with the pigment lighteners within the peel solution.

For homecare after the TCA. I suggest that you moisturize as normal. Our post peel instructions indicate to use Acai Berry Moisturizer. You could also spritz with our Cucumber Toner throughout the day...keep your skin comfortable with hydration. (You can even mix in a bit of hydrocortisone cream to your moisturizer). Remember: The enzymes within the Stratum Corneum need water/hydration for proper desquamation. Hydrated skin performs better than dehydrated skin!

Dave

Just to back-track a bit.
We can boost enzymes with any of the peels (gly, lac, tca) ?
I've been sticking to boosting the enzymes with whichever acid they already had in them; for example glycolic OR lactic with the lemon zest, depending on my goals.  In theory, I could boost it with a tca?
