Hi, I just started the Acne scarring protocol on a client. She has been on the homecare products for a week. Yesterday I did the first glycolic peel. I applied the peel with a fan brush. It was way too hot for her to handle the full time of 5-7 minutes. She was able to keep it on for about 3½ minutes.

Is there any way of cutting or buffering the peel more or applying it in a way where it is not so hot?  She already likes what the homecare is doing for the scars. She was discouraged about the peel in that she had a hard time handling it, even said she was not sure she could continue with the peels.

Thanks, Brenda

Hi Brenda:

What about trying the Lactic next time?  Be prepared with a fan to help with the tingling.  See if she could handle 3 of those and then re-try the glycolic.  Otherwise, you could consider the Lemon Zest enzymes which has the brightening effect with 6% lactic and 3% glycolic.

That might work. I know from person experience the lactic acid on me is a little more tolerable. Thanks, Lisa

If this is the first peel that she has ever had, then I think she did great to go a whole 3 1/2 mins!

One manufacturer that I was working with suggested that on a first time peel (especially if unbuffered)  to only leave on 1 minute and work them up to 5-7mins

I think that you will find that she will be able to tolerate longer with each one.

I was the same way myself with Lactic and TCA...just go with what the client can handle. I think if it were me that I would just use 1/2 pump of glycolic or lactic to boost an enzyme before jumping into a peel.

I'll tell her about working up to the full peel. She was really discouraged about not being able to handle it. Thanks, Cindy.
