Hi Ladies!
I've purchased the medium Dermafile from Shelley Hancock and I love it! However, I have done two treatments with it where I filed first then applied a peel and both times I've left visible scratches which turned to scabs on the orbital bone area. What am I doing wrong? When I perform the exact treatment on myself, I'm fine. Perhaps to much friction? I'd love to hear how you are incorporating the file using SS peels and enzymes.

Hi Marie: When you file first, then peel, you are accelerating the peel driving it deeper into the skin for a more intensified effect. Every client is different on tolerance (your skin could handle it, but not others).
When I use the dermafile with the enzymes, I use them wet. I dermafile directly on top of the enzyme, BUT there should be no pressure and you should have good "slippage" so you aren't tugging on the skin (I add more enzyme to the file if necessary). My point here is to "buff" the dead corneocytes off that have been softened by the enzyme/peel.
I have attached a pdf on choosing your order of exfoliation. I hope this helps!
The way I use it, just a few minutes during the last part of the enzyme, I do not charge extra. However, if you are making it a separate 10 minute treatment, then I think you should charge extra. Setting pricing is difficult - if you are in a med spa environment, it might be an extra $50. If you are independent, maybe its an extra $25.
Hi Gals...thought I'd pipe in! I recently received an email from an Esty that just purchased a new set of Dermafiles, but she had been using them for years though (she had a set of the older ones). She said they felt more abrasive and was having a bit of an issue with scratches. I contacted the developer and was informed that the new model of Dermafiles are indeed a bit more abrasive. I have used both models and didn't notice this difference. I've never had a problem with scratches. Here is what she recommended: when you get your files, give them up good scrubbing...use a tough body part! Then go easy for just a bit until they wear in.
Like Madalene said....you have to make sure the file is flat on the skin. Make your movements slow at first until you get comfortable using the files. It's easier to control it being flat if you are moving slowly. Hope this helps!
