I love working with the Skin Script line, it has really been a fun line to learn. I'm still somewhat new and cautiously learning so I'm looking for a little help. I have a client who is a fitz 3 and tans regularly. She has oily skin and is dealing with a mild to moderate amount of acne mainly on her chin. The acne seems to be new since she stopped taking birth control. She emailed me today interested in doing a series of peels and mentioned the cranberry turnover peel (she must have been researching the product line). My biggest concern is that she is actively trying to get pregnant and could be pregnant at any given time. What would be a safe protocol for her that will help with the acne and oil without being a concern for potential pregnancy?
I think you know what I'm going to say here. Chemical peels are definitely off limits for tanners. If you peel the skin while they are tanning, you are allowing the UV rays to drive right into the dermis and create all sorts of collagen damage, not to mention opening up the exposure of skin cancer.
Regarding pregnancy (or the attempt to get pregnant), you should not peel the skin during this time. Look for other alternatives such as a series of coconut enzymes with a light mechanical exfoliation (such as microderm or dermafiles). You'd be surprised how effective mild enzymes can be with acne and good homecare.
Thank you again Lisa for your help earlier today. You're right, gut instinct told me the answer but at this stage in my career I'm still double checking myself. Now I feel more confident in telling my client what she needs to hear. It was great chatting with you today!
