Hello All,

I am new to Skin Script, and recently purchased the Pomegranate Enzyme and other products based off the Webinar and aggressive research/reviews on products. Needless to say, my products came in today, so I immediately discontinued my use of Dermalogica and gave myself a facial with the Skin Script products I purchased. I can say my skin looks brighter and feels better. I have some blemishes on my cheeks that have been resistant to previous treatments. Any suggestions on Fitzpatrick 6 skin? Chemical Peel Protocol?

Thanks,

Shia.

Thanks Cindy & Lashia for your great feedback!

Cindy,

I appreciate your feedback. I stopped using the glycolic cleanser after my last post went to the Pomegranate cleanser, toner, and hydrating moisturizer and all the issues/concerns disappeared. I don't see any acne. I will never extract comedones/milias on my skin ever again. With that being said, I'm now hesitant to extract on other African Americans. I've been watching my good friends skin very closely and she has hyperpigmentation as well. So I ask the question, what happened? She replied, "From busting these bumps on my face".  I told her I wanted to try the 8 week protocol on her skin and I'll be doing the same treatment. We're taking before and after pictures, the whole nine.

My only question is: I've had PCA peels before, very light in my opinion, didn't do a thing for my hyperpigmentaton. Should/could I jump right into the TCA treatment, but only starting with one/two layers? Your thoughts?

Lashia:  I love the 8-week protocol, and when used with the homecare, especially those glycolic/retinol pads for pigmentation, you should have great success.  I would stick with the protocol and not jump to the TCA.  I realize we all want the results right now, but the most successful way is to work up to it and give it the full 8 weeks.  Let me know how it goes.

One more thing about the extractions - through experience I learned that I don't get too aggressive when it comes to extractions so that I don't cause hyperpigmentation.  I also don't want to traumatize the client with extractions that she would never come back.

Lisa,

I'll take your advice. I don't want any complications. Our open house is at the end of February and I would like my skin to be very healthy.

Again thanks for the feedback.

Lashia,  I formulate a glycolic acid cleanser, GlycoCleanse, for my clients.  Their initial response is same as yours...stinging, tingling.  I encourage them to keep using it to build up their skin's strength and resistance.  It is not long before they return their bottle to me saying, "It lost its tingle."  That's how they become aware that their skin is not so vulnerable, is stronger, and less sensitive.  I do add a touch more glycolic acid to their cleanser as their skin becomes stronger---they call it 'ramp it up.'  They now know the tingle is proof it is active.  Keep in mind I say "tingle" not "burn."  My clients have memorized:  tingling is good, burning is bad.

That said, there are some clients who need some help getting through that sensitive period.  Thus, I suggest they put a few drops of facial oils (I formulate that product) in their cleanser at the point of use (do not add to whole bottle).  Great success with that.  Did you know that you can convert any gel cleanser into a cream cleanser just by adding some oils---even just a good olive oil---prior to applying to skin.  Try it out for a test:  in palm of hand, mix a gel cleanser (or any cleanser you think too active) with a few drops of good facial oils.  It will turn creamy.  Thus, I do not sell cream cleansers.  I show my clients how to make their own using a gel cleanser, explaining that they can add oil to a gel cleanser but they can't get the oil OUT of a cream cleanser.  Extremely versatile and saves money by not having to buy two cleansers.

Most of the time, I find that milia are product related.  Too oily, thus the oil clogs pores.  No breakout.  Just clogged pores.  Hard to extract.  I do not do peels except spot peels.  Most of my clients do not need peels due to daily exfoliation and active products that I formulate.  I apply peel solution to the milia, softening the sebum, then do a light exfoliating cleanse.  At that point, the milia can be extracted with usual extraction methods.  For resistant ones, I reapply spot peel in a few days and repeat.

This is just one of several effective methods, thus I do not intend to deny the effectiveness of other recommendations that are posted.
