Suggestions for adolescent client that recently discontinued Accutane due to increased cost. First appointment is this week.

Mom states he is starting to have breakouts again since discontinuing med in late December. Any suggestions on how to approach treatment with SS are greatly appreciated. Also, do any of you know how to get accutane treatment affordably? This family has no insurance.

Hi Crimson:  For homecare I would lean towards the Blemish Cleanser, Cucumber Toner (since he's probably dry from the Accutane), Blemish Spot Treatment (will help greatly with cystic acne to slow them down), and Light Aloe Moisturizer.

For professional treatments, I would start with Coconut enzymes (due to the Accutane use) and move into Blueberry Enzymes with spot treatment on active acne with the Cranberry Turnover (20% salicylic).

If he was to the degree of Accutane, I'm thinking its an internal issue where a food allergy test might be of best interest.  Here, in Arizona, we have a Naturopathic Medical School where they accept patients for a lower cost.   If a Naturopathic Physician is out of reach, I would start with (1) removing dairy from the diet, and (2) removing wheat.

I hope this helps.  Lisa
