Hello fellow SS users!  I need to be encouraged. I just ordered several products from SS, and I was so excited about switching lines ( was currently using glymed, and dermalogicia) , but today I got a long text from a client that I just used the line on this past Sat. She said that her skin is still stinging, and under her eye it is swollen and the left eye there is a scar. My heart started hurting, because she has been coming to me every Sat for the last 6months and this has never happen until I swicthed the line. My client has is fitzpatrick 6, has Acne ( both open and closed comedones),and  Acne scars. I used the following on her.

1st Green Tea Cleanser

2nd Glycolic Cleanser

3rd Lemon Zest Enzyme

4th Extractions

5th Cucumber Toner

6th Strawberry/ Sper Mask

7th Light Aloe Moist

Now I am concerned about using it on anyone else. I have used it a few other times on other acne clients this same week, and they all said the Lemon and Pomgr burns.

Any advise will help thanks all!

Thanks ladies this is why I love this site. I am learning SS, and I appreciate all the advise.I just need to continue to read, and play with the different ways to use this line.

@ Lugenia hi I havent talked to you since the Sally's Spa Day! Text me when you have time :)

Will do! :-)

I use this similar protocol all the time and haven't ever had any issues.  I wonder if she did anything at home after the facial.  What is her current regimen?  The Pom def tingles.  If you are using on a first time client, I would cut it with a little bit of the strawberry mask.  I can't imagine anything you did would leave a scar and that quickly.  Did you do any extractions near the area and does this client ever pick?  Maybe the facial purged her skin and she picked slightly?

Hi All - yes, people can react to fruit enzymes.  That can happen with real fruit and its hard to predict.  If I have had a problem in the past, I would remove the product, neutralize with baking soda/water to stop any action, and proceed with something else, such as the Coconut enzyme.  We are not going deep enough with the products to scar the skin.  Ensure they do not pick and use extra moisturizer if they are extra flaky.  The Lemon Zest normally has a tingle factor around a 2.  The Pomegranate has a tingle factor of a 5-6.  Keep that in mind.  If you are concerned, you should always try products on your own skin first to get a feel of how you might react.  I would also ask if the client was using any medications, recent illness.  What is she using for homecare that could cause the stinging (obviously the enzyme of off the skin now).  Sometimes you might find that they are using a glycolic moisturizer, or a retin-A that could cause that.  As always, feel free to e-mail me at lisa@skinscriptrx.com or call 480-543-1121.

You've got some great advice below!  I like Susan's advice about addressing the client's concerns, comforting them that they will need scar (its not going deep enough).  Everyone can react to different products and its a matter of how you, the aesthetician handle it.  I once had a facial (different skin care line which is supposed to be extremely gentle) and it set my face on fire within 2 minutes; it then migrated into my eyes.  The aesthetician had baking soda and water out neutralizing (also neutralizing my eyes, which were sizzling).  It was such a strange reaction, especially since I can use about anything.  The aesthetician simply removed it, neutralized, and proceeded with the facial.  I was okay.  I can use everything in SS line, but it just goes to show that anyone can react to any product.

I have used Dermalogica ( along time ago, granted) and it is extremely mild.

Lemon Zest Enzyme is pretty spicy - I would say at almost as strong as the D "peel" (can't remember what they call it - power exfoliator?)- I very rarely use steam with this one.

Anyway - I don't usually use the Glycolic cleanser OR the Lemon Zest enzyme for first timers.

I would have used the Rasp/Peach enzyme.

As far as the enzymes "burning", wow - I have never had that reaction from anyone. Perhaps the Gly cleanser was too much for your people if you used that. I would have used the Blemish Control cleanser which is really mild. Plus I would look at any other exfoliation you were using - do you use a brush or Clarisonic or an ultrasonic Spatula?

Plus exfoliating product needs to be completely removed (Cleansers and enzymes). Review your removal procedures and make sure that you are thorough.  I tend to remove enzymes completely with esthetic wipes and follow with a towel then pads with Cucumber Mist.

I don't have an acneic clientele - but I would want to know how inflamed their skin was to start off with.  You need to go mild with inflamed pustular conditions.

And if they are "pickers" and there were open wounds...well...that's an issue right there.
