Has anyone performed Oxygen Facials? If so what machine do you use and is it profitable?

  • Rachael Pontillo

    @Laura that is a good point...thanks!
  • Jami amidon

@Rachael, there are many licensed professionals, doctors, salon owners top professionals that have moved into the new era of moving a product directly to the consumer. I have a network of people duplicating me in this area of my business and I am happy to have them! We work as a team and there is no "I" in team.  This company attracts an upscale clientel. It is being used by internationally known make up artists, getting rave reviews from magazines (and they are not advertisers) consider having both types of products, I do. You ARE a professional and a business woman, do your due diligence, Arbonne is not a compromise on quality. At the end of the day, we have only so many hours and so many years to create income, great idea to duplicate ourselves and step away from the crowd.

Do anyone have the Nova (6 in 1) microdermabrasiion machine?

    Are you satisfied with it?

  • Gina Williamson

Hi everyone! I decided to post some of my comments from the "Business Women Tips & Wisdom" group in this one as well to hopefully get some more feedback on products….
I have been trying to decide between PCA skin and Bioelements- and think I have opted to just use both. Is this a good/bad idea?
I also am considering becoming an Arbonne consultant. Even though it's not a professional product, I'm thinking it might a useful sideline to boost my bottom line (aka help pay rent...!)- and a way to meet women interested in beauty and skincare to market my services to.  (I am getting some discouragement from going this route- I can see both sides to it. I have been doing a lot of internet research, and it seems to be a highly recommended product line by estheticians and dermatologists out there, so I am feeling a bit conflicted).
Ok- the other question would be the cosmetic end... I know I don't want to invest thousands in being able to sell professional cosmetic lines... is there any merit to Arbonne in the cosmetic department- or are there are cosmetic lines that I can recommend/use/order/sell without hundreds of dollars of start-up?  I heard that Jane Iredale is around $4000. there is just no way.... :-( any ideas on this??

I am a huge believer in mineral makeup. I personally have been using Sheer Cover, but would like to be using something I can also turn around and SELL (I'm all about selling!! haha).  I don't necessarily want to stock cosmetics- but it might be nice to have a line I am associated with that my clients can sample and then order- and that I use to be my own advertisement.  So if anyone has any ideas/input for that, let me know!!
ALSO- it looks to me like professional products are being sold all over ebay!!! is this an issue for anyone?! :-(( is there no regulation for this?

Sorry for this multi-faceted post!! I am new to this forum, newly licensed, and newly embarking on my career! I will be renting space from a chiropractor starting in May-- so LOTS to absorb and decide!!

    Thanks, everyone, in advance. :-)
  • Susan Ferguson

@ Gina - First, you paid a good amount of money to become a Professional in this field, I would stick with products that you can only get from a professional.  Arbonne can be sold by anyone.  Being that you are new and just starting out and as you have stated money may be an issue, I would choose one line that you really like and believe in and start with that.  Sometimes trying to sell the features and benefits of more than one product line can be confusing to clients.  Also trying to keep enough inventory of more than one product line can be pricey.  Product on the shelf sells easier than telling clients that you need to order it.

As far as the stuff being sold on e-bay, in my opinion that hurts the professional store front establishments, but there is nothing that can be done about it except to educate our clients on the benefits of having a personal relationship with their esthetician and the quality control of that relationship.  Best of luck to you in your decision making, it is a lot to think about.

  • Robin Collins

Hi Gina - I also wanted to offer clients a healthy makeup choice and turned to Arbonne as their makeup line is quite good and well formulated.  However have since found this company a disaster to work with.  I opted for their online link thru my website rather than spend thousands on inventory and was promptly notified (after spending another $120 on the link) that I was not "allowed" to put any pics or words to get people to look at the link...I questioned this as I see women who know nothing about the skin frantically trying to sell skincare products from Arbonne in the local Dunkin Donuts and elsewhere, but I as a professional couldn't put in details about their makeup that the company itself  says!  After a few months of makeup events I found that if you don't sell (or purchase yourself) $150 worth of Arbonne products per month - you don't even receive your commission on the amount you did sell!  I was not told all of these fine details at my initial meeting and quite frankly am totally no longer interested in selling anything this company has to offer.  I agree with Susan - this is a "home grown" skincare company...anyone who feels like trying their hand at being a salesperson can get involved - no skin education required.  To that end the products are formulated to be safe, home use products - not professional products.  Even for me who was never interested in their skincare products, but only in their makeup, have found this company to be somewhat sketchy in their process.  Best to go with a professional skincare company.  I do offer PCA Peels at my business and have been very successful, however I do keep that separate as the "peel co"  The line for skincare that I use is Dermalogica and have been very successful with this.  Dermalogica is a fair company to work with and you don't have to feel that a big inventory is necessary - you can do web partnership with them and have people order the products you recommend through your website.  (I offer people a small discount on their next service if they bring in a receipt from a purchase on my web.)  Good luck to you!
  • Jami amidon

I LOVE having Arbonne as a home care choice in my business. It has helped me build my aesthetic business as well, I am currently booking into end of May and June. With a wait list for April.  It is all about being educated on the facts and not really caring about what other people think. My bottom line speaks for itself.

My encouragement to anyone looking to consider this line is that you will find as many believers as non believers. I learned a long time ago that I will always find people to tell you what you want to hear if I look hard enough. I am sure you will make the decision that is right for you Gina.

  • Gina Williamson

I appreciate all the different input as I am trying to sort out what to do.  Part of my "dilemma" is that the chiropractor I will be renting space from IS a consultant- so my thinking was it could help us both if I was also signed up... so I'm wondering if I should sign up just so I can benefit from any sales w/in the office, w/o necessarily "pushing" it if I don't feel comfortable doing so.

Does anyone have any input on Bioelements?

  • Heather Capitanich

I am phasing Bioelements out of my skin care product line.  I have retailed and back-bared this product for over 2 years now & like some of the serums that they offer & their softening gel is nice.  To me this line of products is very safe, good for beginners, but not going to give any dramatic results.  They have a ton of products to choose from, which can be very overwhelming not only for you, but also for your clients.  They are also selling their line of products in all of the Beauty 360 salons throughout the US which are usually adjacent to any CVS Pharmacy which is why I am choosing to move away from them.  I do not want to sell my clients a professional product that they can purchase from a drug store!

They also have an opening order of $2000

They make you purchase a specific amount of retail & back-bar within that opening amount

You also have to sell over $400 per month to stay on their radar-they are very strict

I also noticed once they started supplying the Beauty 360 that it was taking up to a month to receive any of my back ordered products, which was wayyyy to long to make a client wait.

Hope this helps & if you have further questions about Bioelements-I'll try to answer them :)

  • Gina Williamson

Thanks, Heather. What line are you moving into?

  • Heather Capitanich

I am using PCA for my chemical peel line & leaning towards Skin Scripts to replace Bioelements.
  • Gina Williamson

ooooh! that is who I am looking at now and getting very excited about!! how funny you just posted that! I sent my registration request in and am awaiting my approval so I can start shopping! I love their choices and think it would really compliment PCA skin (what I have decided to use for peels as well!) sounds like we are on the same track!! :-)
  • Jami amidon

Heather,  what do you love about skin scripts?

Also, have any of you ever used Laura's acne line?

  • Heather Capitanich

Have not yet used skin scripts, but I like that they are all organic.  I like the enzyme choices that they offer & that they do not hold you to an opening order! :)

I have not use Laura's acne line, but do find it intriguing & have considered getting certified.

  • Jami amidon

Thanks Heather! Acne is not my specialty, more anti aging issues. I do run into the occasional client and would like to know more. that is a very frustrating issue to deal with. Herb a Peel looks pretty interesting too. I think my client base would pay the pricey treatment cost if it worked like they say it does. I just need to find the time to fly out to LA! I can't even find the time to eat in a day-LOL.
  • Pamela Cantor

I'll be attending a Skin Scripts intro class May 1st.  The line is interesting and I'm looking for a new line.  Also looking at AND (A Natural Difference our of Florida) and Rhonda Allison (out of Texas I believe).  Both have the same manufacturing resource.  I really prefer custom blending with both Only Yourx and Skin Blends.

And, yes, I use Larua's acne line. I was looking for an acne line that has a good mandelic acid.  Both Laura and I took training from Dr. Fulton (co-founder of Retin A and owner of Vivant).  I did well with Only Yourx acne products but they don't have mandelic.  Laura has a great selection of home care products to treat the various types of acne and they're not overly aggressive.  They're designed so that you can start an acne client with a product that won't cause adverse reaction with the strength to be gradually increased . . . which is the way we're supposed to treat them but most lines don't have the selection or training needed.  Visit Acne Specialists on Linkedin for more conversation.

  • Katrina Kulm

    Heather,

Where does it say on the Skin Script website that their line is organic? I thought it was at first but they don't say anything about organic, just that it's an all natural line that uses fruit enzymes. I really like some of their fruit enzyme masks! I don't like any of their moisturizers..mostly don't like the smell or the others are too thick, leaving a tacky feel.

  • Katrina Kulm

    Jami,

Did you read the article about the Herbal Peel in Skin Deep too? I thought it sounded like an interesting peel being plant based. Only thing is that it doesn't say what companies sell it and how to get training for it? Must be pretty new.

  • Jami amidon

Thank you Pamela. That was very helpful.
  • Jami amidon

    Katrina,

I actually did read that article, but saw an ad for it a few months ago. I contacted the company and they provide all day training where you bring a model in Los Angeles and NY only. It is my understanding that it is 100% all natural herbal combination. The founder is from Germany (2nd generation). It calls for a 5-7 day down time for the client and the treatment costs to client range from $500-$900. They, of course, recommend their line of home care.

  • Madeleine Bongiorno

I too am planning the opening of my practice and have felt the enormity of choosing a line.  The amount of hours I have spent is amazing!  I have met with a Bioelements rep (was looking into starting with them too Gina, ha ha and partnering them up with PCA which I love!  Too bad they don't have an additional spa line that smells yummy for some facials)  I like that Bioelements treatments and products can be custom blended.  I was told by my rep that a big selling point is how the retail products can be custom blended, hmmm.

Anyone loving Image products?  Anyone absolutely loving any product line that is both results oriented yet aromatically lovely, naturally?  Makes me want to create on someday! :)

  • Jami amidon

i'm sure I should refrain from comment....LOL. you girls.....
  • Heather Capitanich

@ Katrina~I pulled this right off of the web...

Skin Script RX Skin Care: Natural & Organic Skin Care for All Skin Types

Skin Script RX Skin Care offers a fabulous line of natural and organic skincare products that work for all skin types and for all ethnicities. Antioxidants, exfoliants, and naturals brighteners are the magic behind this line that allows its users to achieve such remarkable results. Skin Script offers products for professionals, as well as a retail line that can be
  • Katrina Kulm

For some reason it's not showing the word organic on their official website for Skin Script when I clicked to read "about". I find that important because it can mislead us. You could be right though. Has anyone tried their new limited edition raspberry peach enzyme? I'm tempted to order it.
  • Gina Williamson

I like the no opening order of Skin Script, too, Heather! LOL!!

I really like PCA- but it doesn't seem to have enough in there to do a basic facial...? it's mostly just peels, right? so that's why I feel I need a complimentary line (Bioelements? Skin Scripts? Dermalogica?- actually, I don't think I can afford them right off the bat...) SIGH. it is sooo confusing and overwhelming. I want a simple back bar with a few menu items for starters, that as I gain confidence and grow in my product knowledge I can start to add to..

I am taking a Bioelements class on Monday, so that should help me understand that line better (we used that line in school so I am very familiar with it).

    PCA is in April.

But I feel like I need more masking choices- and that's where I was thinking Skin Scripts could come in...

Bioelements does have 2 really nice body treatments that I may implement (Aromatherapy wrap and Herbology wrap). The clients at school always loved those.

  • Gina Williamson

    @ Katrina- I can't find "organic" either...

@ Heather- can you give us the link where you read that?

  • Jami amidon

Gina, look into a line called DNA. I have an esty friend that just loves it who lives in Santa Fe.
  • Heather Capitanich

@ Katrina & Gina, I Googled Skin Scripts RX & got their link to this information.

@Gina-I use PCA as a chemical peel/acne treatment line & that is why I am considering Skin Scripts.

When you do take the Bioelement class, ask a lot of questions about the requirements of your opening order, how much, what products, monthly sales amount required, etc..

Yes, Bioelements does have some nice body treatment, which I have used, but the Massage Warehouse Catalogue had body treatment products which were also comparably as nice.

  • Pamela Cantor

The reason I originally chose Only Yourx was because I was a newbie and went into biz for myself knowing full well that my education was lacking.  This was 16 years ago but I spent the year prior to getting my license reviewing product lines and found OYx (formerly Prescription Plus) treatments could be performed successfully by anyone due to their terrific printed instructions and education.  I've never regretted my decision, continue to use many of their products and just wish that they would step up to the plate with more retinols, peptides and stem cell options.  Sadly, they don't participate in the trade shows because they'd rather invest their profits in research.  Thus not many estys are familiar with them.  But their basics are great for new estys just getting started and their support materials, especially the analysis and basic facial treatment guides, are the best I've seen to date.  Check 'em out online.
  • Heather Capitanich

Has anyone used Astara?  Sounds very nice & very organic.
  • Katrina Kulm

Has anyone used Nature Pure Labs? I'm really interested in their SolvAGE Microcurrent eye patches, here's the link.. http://www.naturepure.com/2010/06/solvage®-microcurrent-eye-treatment-patches/

Please let me know if anyone has tried these microcurrent eye patches and if they got good results? I want to make sure I get my money's worth!

  • Gina Williamson

    Hi everyone!

I took 2 Bioelements classes today- and I have to say... I think I am leaning back toward my initial inclination of using that line for starting out on.  I learned a LOT about the products and how they can be used and customized and enhanced, and it's pretty impressive!

I think I may have even decided to hold off on PCA skin for now, too.

I had some long discussions with the rep- who was awesome and very straightforward- and she helped me see the wisdom in starting with a single line I can apply toward everyone, AND have a familiarity with already, as I grow in my confidence in my skills/knowledge/ and client base.  After time, I will begin to see where my clients are taking me, or where I want to focus my efforts, and that might be the time to introduce machines or more specific "peel lines".  Meantime, Bioelements has 3 great peels + enzymes.

I may still order a few Skin Scripts products since there is no minimum orders.

There apparently is no official "buy-in" with Bioelements, as long as you work with the rep you get them at spa pricing. There are no quotas, unless you want to try to stay a "Partnership Spa" or the next level up (I forget what that is off-hand).

This actually is giving me piece of mind- financially and educational-wise. I can focus on learning the ins and outs of ONE professional line, perfect my facials and skin-typing skills, and then over time, build upon that to introduce more sophisticated options.

So that is where I am right now. I am going to look at it a little closer to make sure... but it feels right for me for now.

    :-)

I have and currently use Tu'el Skin Care, a division of Eva's Esthetics. I was first introduced to them nearly 14 years ago and still love their product today.  A simple line with tremendous results.  They teach that skin is skin without regard to gender or ethnicity.  They teach how to analyze skin so that you cleanse for type and treat for condition.  Check out their website www.evasesthetics.com   They are a family owned company that has been in business for over 30 years.  Lori Nestore is the CEO and also known as "The Wax Queen" they are the exclusive US distributor of Berins Wax.
  • Patricia M. Lewis

Can anyone recommend excellent products for fine lines and wrinkles? Also have a client with dark circles under eyes what are the products that really work for this situation?
  • Gina Williamson

What would everyone consider being a good rule of thumb for considering the products you use in a facial when it comes to cost per use?
  • Amber McFarland

    Hello fellow Esthies

i am just opening my Esthetics room in a new health center and am having a tough time finding the right towels.Seemed like a easy problem but finding things are either too rough or too expensive . I feel a bit like Goldilocks and the three bears. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Cindy Greenwood

@Heather Re Astara...it looks like a nice retail line. However, you might be better off with a professional line that has pro/backbar products.

Would you like to provide facials with a little bit more "oomph" than just what is available for client at home use? Keep looking!

  • Katrina Kulm

    Hi Amber,

Have you tried Softees towels? They're wonderful quality and soft microfiber towels, I use them all the time for doing facials on my clients. They hold up really well! You get a 10 pack for $20 and there's a variety of colors to choose from. You can get them from a beauty supply store or Amazon. Here's a link for them on Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/Softees-Towels-Duraguard-Black-10pk/dp/B001DY...
  • Heather Capitanich

Couldn't agree with you more Cindy!

    Thanks!!!
  • Heather Capitanich

All I use is the Softees Towels!  Love, love, love them!  The was up beautifully & feel great on your skin :)

Got them at the Face & Body Show in San Jose last year.

  • Patricia M. Lewis

Anyone know of a good product for dark circles under eyes?
  • Heather Capitanich

Looking for a good professional line of product that includes back-bar & retail for my home based esthetic business...Any suggestions?
  • Rachael Pontillo

@Heather, I am a big fan of Osmosis...they have no minimum order and offer private labeling as well.  Natural ingredients but on the forefront of technology...I have had great results personally and my clients are very happy as well. Their Facial Infusion non-acid peel is also fabulous and can be customized, as can most of the other products.  www.osmosisskincare.com

  • Heather Capitanich

Thank you Rachael this is a line I know of & is on my list of considerations!
  • Madeleine Bongiorno

@ Rachael,  I am close to choosing Osmosis for my main line.  I love the products but I am not wild about their smells.  How do you find working with them... trying to imagine them during facials?  Do love the results though!

  • Rachael Pontillo

@Madeleine, I agree that some of the smells are not as pleasing as some of the others...that's because there are no added fragrances.  One of my clients did not like the smell of the Stem Factor at first, but got used to it and loves the results.  That product, as well as the Clarify serum are really the only ones I had to get used to.  The results for me have been so good that I don't even care about the lack of pleasant smells...some of the products actually smell good though...the cleansers that have bromelain smell tropical...but it is not overpowering.  You could try using an essential oil diffuser in your treatment room during your treatments...lavender is a fairly universally-liked scent and also has mild sedative effects...I did that even before I started using the Osmosis and clients never noticed any fragrance or lack thereof in the previous lines I used.  Regarding Osmosis, no one has ever complained to me about the scent during treatment...it has always been afterwards with the home care.  But I haven't had any returns because the results have been so good.

  • Sally Connor

I would love to hear from any estheticians who use two different product lines in their salon/spa. We currently have Dermalogica and the owner is talking of bringing in BioElements as well.
  • Madeleine Bongiorno

Thanks so much Rachael, that really helps.  I was thinking of checking with Osmosis to see how they felt about me offering an essential oil add-in (I am a certified aromatherapist as well).  But maybe in the room and in the towel water is scentsy enough.

  • Rachael Pontillo

    No problem Madeleine!  Good luck.
