Eyelash tinting is a confusing topic for me.

During my esthetics training, which was at a very reputable Aveda Institute, I was trained on how to perform eyelash tinting. When working in New York at the Aveda flagship, we did not perform this service as there was, it was explained to me, a federal law prohibiting it. In California, at both an Aveda spa and an independent spa where I worked, we performed eyelash tinting. Here in Chicago, the service is very popular. To see what the state regulated, I called the Chicago office of the state's Consumer Affairs and asked if it was permissable. The man on the phone did not even know what I was referring to, put me on hold, came back and said that yes it was and that there were several businesses that offered this service. I know, in fact, there are several that do.

As for the insurance side of things, I know one of my policies does cover eyelash tinting but only a certain brand if I choose to add it to the menu.

My online search did not clarify anything.

Factual insights, not opinions, would be most appreciated if anyone has them.

Thanks Susan. I really want actual, factual data on this. Does anyone have it?

It is my understanding that the dyes are not FDA approved and it is up to the individual State as to whether they decide to enforce it or not.
