I have been a Licensed Esthetician, Certified Aromatherapist, and Professional Makeup Artist for 6+ years, 9 years total in the cosmetics/skincare business. I formerly managed cosmetic lines such as Estee Lauder (twice) which is what inspired me to get into Esthetics. After graduating and moving, I found a very hard time finding employment at a spa with a steady facial clientele in the Pawleys Island, SC area. After deliberation, I decided to enroll in college again for my RN to combine with Esthetics. With all that being said, I am in the first semester of nursing, and what I am in search for is Esthetics education from a Nursing standpoint, all-encompassing. I continue my Esthetics CEU's to maintain my license. But as we all know, An RN license opens up a multitude of treatments and procedures that as Licensed Estheticians alone we cannot perform without direct supervision of a Doctor (Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon). I am interested in learning the procedures that can be done now with further education, as well as the depth of treatment and training that can be performed with the combined RN and Esthetics licensing in South Carolina. Every in-depth education past the basics of Esthetics that I have found is extremely expensive. I have found a week+ at some schools to cost more than my entire semester in nursing! Most companies who sell the equipment are the ones who come in and teach little basics on the use of the machines and protocol, and the rest in trial and error. I disagree with this process. I think the advancement for education is for client protection, and Estheticians shouldn't be charged out the wazoo for proper training on advanced procedures. So where does one go? Where is the line drawn? What can we do as an Esthetician, while learning Nursing, to be the most educated and trained in the profession? Where is there a solution to advanced Esthetics from a Nursing standpoint combination?

I've been an esthetician for over 15 years. Advanced education came from huge financial investments on products, equipment, vendor classes, self study, trade show education and advanced education from specialists in the field But the best education came from "hands-on" treatments with from a steady clientele. At this point I can help clear acne, hyper-pigmentation and bring a youthful lift to aging skin. I don't know where you could get that education fast track but it probably exists. Wouldn't nurses who go into esthetics prefer the more lucrative specialities such as laser and injectables? I have yet to earn a "comfortable" living on doing facials so I understand why you decided to go into nursing.
