Ladies (and Gentlemen!) Please, Please, Please Don't Do This!

You guys know that I don't normally chat about negative stuff but I really need to understand this. I think I may have even written about this one awhile back but it happens time and time again and I'm just so very curious....

I'll return a phone call to an Esty that has left me a message about a piece of equipment or she's just needing some help with something. She (or he) will answer the phone only to tell me they are doing a facial and can't talk right now. They are literally answering their phone from the treatment room, they are whispering to me! Why are you answering your phone in the treatment room? Why is your phone even in the treatment room with you? Am I really old fashioned (or just old!) and it's okay to do this?  Please help me understand this one!

Ok Ladies - good to see that there are so many professionals here :) But let me ask a question do any of you do teeth whitening? Reason for my question is I have 80 teeth whitening kits that I like to sell - purchased them when I had my spa, closed it since then - kits are about 8month old from France - they are professional kits that Dentist use, each set is surgically packaged with the gel, bib, gloves, trays you just need a light which can be purchased on ebay - gel is 35% carbomer, whitens teeth 3-4 shades in first setting. Conventional service charge is 75-150 dollars depending on location. Contact me if interested.  I do not want to have to sell it to Dentist they make enough money - this is a great service to add if you do not do it already - will video train buyer how to use it. spadivausa@live.com

My phone is ALWAYS on SILENT!!! I will not return a call until the client is out of the treatment room.  I will only return a text within parts of the protocol when the client is under steam or masking.  I am not attached to my phone during treatments.

So, that makes two of us. #oldfashioned

This is funny! Sometimes we can get too comfortable in our own setting and take our workplace for granted. I see this with some fellow 1099s; the surroundings start to mesh with personal life and then before you know it... you have people answering phones during treatments. You're not old fashioned. It's about etiquette, and respecting the clients' needs. This includes any good attempts at getting them into that lovely second stage of REM during treatment! ;-)

You are sooo right bad bad bad - I even ask my clients to turn of their phone. This is one hour to relax and turn off the phone and chatter in the head. No treatment will have its wellness benefits with out relaxation. No you are not old - it is just bad form.

This is a pet peeve of mine too! It is just not way I am answering a phone call during a facial. I do not do it, and please Etsy friends do not do it period!

I must be old too Shelley! I would be a very unhappy client if my skincare provider answered their phone while I was paying them for a service, Id be upset even if their phone rang! I find it completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I would never return... Providing a great service to our clients is not just a great facial. It is our undivided attention as well. Make them feel special. Make them #1 the entire time they are with you!!

I don't agree with answering your phone while with clients.  I think people are afraid to miss the business and feel the need to answer their phones at all times.  If people don't want to leave a voicemail they will move onto the next person they find, in which case they didn't really care to see you in the first place.

I am also not a fan of double booking clients.  Example: when one client is under steam leave them to take another client.  If I'm paying for a service I'm paying for your time and should have all of it.
