When going to a laser clinic for cosmetic procedures, you would be surprised to know that there are many different types of lasers that can be used for each process. Some are more invasive than others and some work better for different skin tones. Lasers can be used for many things, including; wrinkles, scars, skin pigmentation problems, vein issues, hair removal, and even tattoo removal. The difference between lasers are whether they are ablative, non-ablative, or not even a laser. An ablative laser will sometimes produce the best results by dispelling the outer layer of skin, allowing new skin to form in better state. A non-ablative laser does not penetrate as deeply which means that more sessions may be needed to achieve the same results. The doctors, such as those at the Canada MedLaser clinic, will help determine the best type of laser to use based on your skin type and the type of procedure performed.
Ablative Lasers
There are two types of ablative lasers, the first being the Carbon Dioxide Laser. This laser can be used for any number of areas including wrinkles, scars, saggy skin, corns on the feet, and even skin cancer. The healing that is required for this laser can take weeks or even months after the procedure. The Erbium Laser is less invasive than the CO2 laser because it does not burn so much of the surrounding tissue. The only side affects you will notice with the use of this laser is swelling and bruising that should go away within a couple weeks. This laser is used for similar procedures and also pigmentation problems and small wrinkles. Those with darker skin find this laser to be more effective.
Non-Ablative Lasers
There are three commonly used non-ablative lasers. The first is called the Intense Pulsed Light laser, which can cause bruising and pigmentation changes that disappear fairly quickly. This laser can be used for vein problems, vascular problems, birthmarks, and even stretch marks. The Nd:Yag Laser is most commonly used for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and pigmentation, and also tattoo removal; although it is not as effective for skin problems. The last laser is the Alexandrite laser which is only used for hair removal, dark veins in the legs, and removal of tattoos. While it removes hair, it is generally more successful at removing fine hair and is limited to tattoo colors of black, green and yellow. This laser is most effective when used on those with pale skin tones.
When considering going to a laser clinic, consider the different types of lasers that may be used to correct the problems you desire. Consider the fact that some lasers may require more healing time than others and remember that the doctor will let you know which laser will be most effective for you personally. No matter what the issue is that you desire laser treatment for, after reading this, I hope that you will feel more informed about the next step to feeling better about the way you look. The ultimate outcome should make you feel confident in your appearance and give you a better outlook for the future.
