I was wanting to start up a part time business doing services in the evenings and on weekends. I am unable to quit my full time job as a LPN at this time. I have a place to go, but I need some help on trying to figure out how to start the business. Do I start up as a LLC or a INC? Also a question about booth rent or independent contractor. She said that starting out in my position that a percentage would be easier. I think not because I am providing all of my equipment and supplies. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Donna,

The best advice you can receive on this topic is by meeting with an attorney. Everyone's situation is different. On the other hand, there is a great book I found on Amazon called: Wonder Women, How Western Women Will Save the World. It covers some of the topics. An excellent book in my opinion!

As either a booth renter or IC, you are responsible for providing your own equipment and supplies.  That may be contrary to what you hear, but one of the "tests" on the IRS and state labor board websites in determining if you are an IC is if you provide them yourself or if they are provided for you.

As a booth renter, you can rent an "equipped booth" but that needs to be spelled out in your lease agreement.

You don't have to have an LLC or INC.  YOu can be a sole proprietor in either situation
