Hi,

To answer your questions:

She is a contracted employee.  I checked with my accountant, who thought she should be an employee, but I talked with 2 of my clients who both have many contracted "employees", their businesses are run like mine, they both have checked out this format with their attorneys who said it was ok.  I make sure I follow contracted employee guidelines (IRS)  Holly has freedom to do things her way.  So I believe we are compliant.

I keep track of what I pay her, and will give her a 1099 at the end of the year.

I use Full Slate for the online booking.  I got it through here!  It's half price for members, they are really good it's easy to use, and when I have a question they get right back with me.   It was 17.95 a month for just me, but when I added Holly it went up to 29.95.   It's a bargain!   My bookings went like crazy when I added it!  My clients love it, and hardly ever answer the phone to take appointments anymore.  I highly recommend it!

Go to www.fullslate.com  to learn more about it.

You can go to my website to see how it works too.  www.skincarestudio.net

There are others like schedulicity, but I really like full slate.

As far as wondering about stealing.   When you have online booking, I can see Hollys schedule.  I know who she has come in, and then I can cross check it with, her sales receipts.  They only thing I can't tell if she is doing anything off the books, like if she had a friend come in for a service.  But you've got to have faith sometime:-)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Valerie,   Yes it was scary!  Giving up control:-)  but mostly finding someone who whose skills were good, and willing to learn and very reliable.

I have found a wonderful young woman who is doing a great job!  She started in the middle of October is working just 10 hours a week (2 half days) to start, until she built more of a clientele.

I started searching by contacting an esthetician I knew who is mature and used to run her own practice.  I also contacted the director of a local cos school that was one of my instructors in esthetics school.  No luck with either.  So I looked on Craigs list to see who was posting job openings in the salon industry.  I found Douglas J (very well known upscale Aveda Salon)  was posting, so I fiqured if they were I could too.

My posting was VERY specific as to what I was looking for, and my expectations.

Part time, mature, reliability, willing to learn, works well by themselves etc.

I posted it at 8am and got Hollys resume in my email at 9am.  She is the one I ultimately hired.  I also got several other inquiries and resumes.  I talked with several, but only interviewed Holly.

I hired for character, because I fiqured I could teach the rest.  She has worked out great!  She is a 'mini me"  :-)  Works hard, etc, etc.  She graduated from Douglas J (where I went)  last May so I called the head of the esthetics program to check her out.  I really wanted someone more seasoned, but when Jean told me, Holly was never late, never missed a day and was always looking for the "next thing that needs to be done"  I thought she would work out.  So far it's been great.

I travel to Florida several times a year fora  week at a time and need someone to fill in my hours while I'm gone.  Holly did that in November and did a great job.

One challenge I didn't anticipate is, filling her schedule.  I thought it would be easier than it is, but clients associate my business with me and want to book with me, because of referals etc.  So I put a brochure together with both of our pictures in it, added her to the website, and asked clients to post there reviews for her on the website, and have included in the newsletters.  Just trying to get her name out there.

I wouldn't have hired someone if I didn't have online booking.  It makes it so easy.

I know this is long, hope it helps, let me know if there is anything other info that would help you.

Lisa
