Extractions. Do you use your fingers or a tool?

Hi everyone!  Something I've wanted input on for a while.  How is everyone doing extractions?  I have a tool at home, but don't like using it on other people as I don't feel I was properly trained to use it.  I have learned a finger extraction technique from IDI that works really well and I am comfortable using.  Let me know how you do them and why.  Thanks!

@Ally - I used to use the miltex schamberg for years until I found the round-end extractors (from Cosmoproshop) that I now use.  So much less painful for my clients; and I get stuff out that I couldn't with the miltex.

Hi Jodi,

I too use the BT-Micro which was part of my kit in school. the -ion setting would be used for extractions. Here is a video that was helpful to me.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1PcSf253cs

I also don't understand how you can get a tight blackhead out with just fingers alone. If you do that, a client can just as easily go home and try to use your technique as well. This just pinches the skin, leaving a red line and I don't think you can get as much out. My tool is wonderful and I am much more comfortable using it to get the job done. Clients don't enjoy laying there while you awkwardly pinch at their skin. When a client has cystic acne, I use my fingers due to how inflamed they are and how ready their acne already is to be extracted once exfoliation is done.

And yes I wear gloves and pad my fingers when using this technique.

Where did you get your tool? I don't really know how to use them yet. I am a pretty new esthetician still.

Actually Cosmopro is a local shop here in my town and they have several sizes. My other esthetician at my spa picked it out with me as well
