Has anyone experienced a problem with a towel cabbie smelling musty after it heats up? I may have a sensitive nose, but it seems that my towels have a musty smell after they warm up in the towel cabbie. I wash my towels daily in hot water on a pre-soak cycle with detergent and bleach. The towels themselves smell fresh and clean coming out of the dryer, but once I take them out of the towel cabbie they seem to have a slight unpleasant odor. I'm thinking it has something to do with the towel cabbie. Any suggestions, what I can do?

Do you leave your cabbie door cracked open before leaving for the day?  They always did that in beauty school and I continued that practice in my own business.   :)

Check to see if you have a drip tray underneath.  Remove and disinfect this.

Always leave door open at the end of the day.

And finally - some people are sensitive to the ozone smell created by the UV sanitizer.  There is no need to use this if you are just keeping towels warm, so just leave it off.

Thanks ladies for the great suggestions. At the end of my day I wipe down the inside empty and dry the drip tray. However, didn't think about the UV sanitizer that makes sense. Unfortunately I don't have the option to turn off the UV sanitizer : (

Theresa- when you dampen your towels maybe try adding a couple drops of lavender in the water to scent the towels... perhaps that will counter the musty smell and be nice for your clients, too! :-)
Thanks Gina great idea. I fill up my sink with warm water with drops of lavendar oil. In addition, I have tried taking a small bowl with water and the oil and place it on the bottom rack of the warmer.  I appreciate everyone's responses.
stuff lavender-soaked cotton balls up their nostrils... they'll never notice the musty!! LOL
LOL! Gina. Your right, they probably would not notice most of my clients doze off. Today at work I removed the UV light, I'll let everyone know if that worked.
OMG, I thought it was me!  Well, not my B.O., but rather somewhere in the area of the towel cabi!  I've, cleaned, disinfected everything possible, but still smell the horrid gym shoe /locker room smell!  Yes... I do leave the door W I D E open at the end of the day.  I'll turn the UV option off, fingers crossed this is the answers to my prayers....

I'm still experiencing the same problem. Although what does help during part of my day is placing a small dish with a lavendar oil with a bit of water at the bottom. By the end of my day It starts to smell again like a horrid gym shoe/locker room.  Well said Siostra. I'm almost at the point of purchasing another towel warmer.

Theresa,

Are you cleaning the gasket around the door on a regular basis? Have you tried turning it uopside down and cleaning the bottom of the door? I was gifted one that was used by a friend, and it had the same issues with odor, so I took it apart and did a thorough cleaning, and after 6 months it still has no odor.  :O)

I do on a daily basis wipe it out and leave the door open. I also clean out the drip pan and dry it too. However, I have not checked the gasket, good idea.  Thanks

I have always opened my cabi door with one of my towels at the end of the day and left it open overnite, therefore I've never had a musty smell. Try this and see if this help. The inside need to dry out!
