I have basically all the equipment needed to start. I just recently decided to rent my own room at a salon and do facials there. I was originally doing a few at home and I work at a medspa 4 hours a day in the morning as well, but I get paid a whooping $15 an hour to do facials. YUP. You read that right. Well, I'm done.
I don't have a towel warmer, can I use a crock pot instead? and what towels to use for this? any links?
what about microdermabrasion? I was thinking just getting the dermafiles, but I've seen nice little machines with diamond tip at amazon. any suggestions on that? I have very little budget tho!
I have an ultrasonic spatula, steamer, lamp, high frequency, galvanic, ultrasound for body and face, will have access to a sterilizer, I have a back bar, bed, what else do I need?
I got the insurance covered, and got all the consent forms needed. But what about your preferred online booking? I will like to try something free... I'm already playing around with one but I'm thinking there must be others out there I can try. Also, how do you manage your finances? any good free software I can use that is great for newbies?
Also, what sites I could use to buy body wrapping materials?
Thank you so much in advance, I have so many questions!

Hi Enith,
I am just starting out as well, working from home for now. I am currently using a crock pot as I cannot afford a decent hot towel cabbie right now. The crockpot is Ok....somewhat inconsistent in the heating. I have found putting it on low for an hour or so, then just "warm" works best, but, I also try to rotate the towels that are in it a couple times as well. Not the greatest option, but, it does work.
I bought my microdermabrasion machine from LCL Beauty (Ebay).....it is actually the exact same machine we used in school. Has the diamond tip (you get 8-10 different heads)....spray machine, and vacuum suction machine all in one. I paid about $149.00 and it is perfect for my needs. Although.....now I want a dermafile too!!
does it work good on clients? do they like the results?
The clients have been very happy with the results.....I am still trying to get used to it and "manage" the suction levels on the machine. With more practice, I am hoping to get even better treatment results!
wow thank you very much for this, you are awesome Anna!
I'm debating either to get a hot cabbie or not. I'm leaning towards getting one. ugh. decisions, decisions. thank you so much, btw!
ok I'm convinced. lol thank you so much Tara!
When I first started out I was using a crock pot on LOW with a little bit of water in the bottom. This worked well, if a little unorthodox. I have to say, I LOVE my hot towel cabbi. It's the first thing I purchased. I also bought a mag lamp like the kind jewelers wear.
May I also recommend that for your table, you use a heating pad AND a foam mattress pad? The kind that you sink into. Every client I work on LOVES it.
We use Mind/Body and it's great because clients can book online and I can have it as an app. I haven't tried any of the others. But I really like this one because it keeps track of my income and outcome and I have access to reports for just about everything to keep track of what exactly I am doing.
For Example: I print out a report each month that tells me how many facials I have done and how many eyebrow waxes etc. for ALL of the services I offer. I keep this in a binder. When I print out the next months report, I can compare them and see how many I have INCREASED by (which is the goal, right?) Also, it has a retail report so I can see what's being sold.
This helps when I go to do my taxes to make sure that I don't owe a bazillion dollars. Definitely recommend to talk with your tax guy. Mine just wants me to write down what I spend and I can save the receipts somewhere else in case I get audited (which I do every year). I love the phone app for this. It keeps track of it all for me. I also have a ledger book so I can have a hard copy. I fill this in from my phone twice a month.
It's so exciting! Good Luck to you! It's a lot of fun, and Like I have always said, a little scary. Worth it!
I buy all my body wrap supplies from cosmoprof or Massage Wharehouse.
Amy thank you so much for your input. I know Mind Body, it's the software we use at the medspa I work at. Is it worth the $ as a newbie? is that what you used first?
also what towels for facials you recommend? I'm having a hard time finding soft, nice size towels to wrap my client's face then to remove masks, etc.
I bought my towels cheap at cosmoprof. I want to say I paid 24 bucks for 12. Worth every penny. They weren't the cheapest ones, but soft and bleach well.
Also, I would recommend getting a really good software, even as a newbie. It's worth it's weight in gold and if you have problems, you have a contact person.
I know lots of Esty's who still use paper books. It's okay to start off, but part of this new era is EVERYTHING has to be online and easy to use. Make it hard for your clients to use or find your website and boom. lost one. :D
I just sat here laughing at myself. When I was a newbie we used paper books. Lol
There is a hot towel cabinet on Amazon for 70$!
