My client has a some dark blotchy areas near her mouth. She wants them lightened. Can you give me advice as to which peel would give her the best results?
Thanks!

There is no blanket answer to this question. Its skin and should be treated based on its own individual needs. The persons fitzpatrick is just part of it. Having said that PCA has the Sensi peel which is generally safe for deeper skin tones and can be layered and kicked up with enzymes. You may not need a peel. Raya cosmetics has some kick butt serums. One is called "Brightening Serum" it is mega effective. Rhonda Allison has some beautiful enzyme peels. There is no one product line solution. Give her a really thorough skin analysis, it will take away some of the anxiety about treatment. Ask family background questions, knowing what cultures grams and gramps came from goes a long way toward getting the right formulation. Don't make unrealistic promises hyper pigmentation takes time to treat but can be done without fear and successfully. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply. I've been questioning it because I read that light peels like glycolic 30% is best for darker skin tones? So I'm also wondering if it is ok to have her use a glycolic lotion for this at 10%?
If she isn't contraindicated for anything that should be fine, and a good way to get her skin in shape for a peel. Book her as a series and really educate her on the need for using pre peel professional products, sticking to the post peel home care regime, and follow up care. Sun protection is a deal breaker. She has got to be willing to take that seriously. If you have any reservations have her come in for a quick patch test. Behind the ear or the inside of the elbow. The skin in those areas tend to be more delicate and less exposed to sun so you should be able to get a good idea of how she will react to the peel you plan to use. Also if you don't think that she is currently a good candidate for a peel suggest a series of microdermabrasion. It will give her those immediate results and make a way for some real product penetration. All the better if you can do LED light therapy.
