I have a client who has had acne pretty much since she was a teen. It was starting to get better but then she got pregnant. I started treating her a couple of months before pregnancy. I have the acne under control and it has gotten a little better and she is happy but I feel like I can do more. I'm not an acne specialist (I'm a fairly new Esty) but I'm becoming more interested in it. I am currently using Skin Scripts, some Image (mainly their peels and I can't use those on her) and I also have the Oxygen Kit from Circadia which is supposed to help with acne.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am seeing her tonight. Thank you!

Does she seem to have more dry skin or is she large pores and oily? I noticed with a few acne clients that they were actually dry to I treated them with lactic peels. You could do this on a pg person. DO you have the passion peptide peel from Image? I know that is pg safe, just not sure what it's good for. I only used once in school. Maybe if she is dry, she will need some hydration too so maybe using the ageless serum could help.
She is dry and oily but mainly dry. I have her on a SS regimen and that has helped her dryness tremendously! Since she has been using those products, her oil to dry ratio has normalized. It's just the acne I can't control. I don't have that specific peel (of course) so I can't do that one. :(
maybe lactic? It's been one of my favorite go to peels lately.
I went to Environ class last month and lactic peels are okay during the middle of the pregnancy. But not to be consistent.
It was my understanding that when women are pg they need to avoid vitamin A products and things like salicylic acid...however, I believe Lactic since it is milk derived, it is ok.. and is a larger molecule so it is not penetrating very deep. Also if you have the coconut enzyme from SS that does not contain any acids and could be used for pregnant women.
Honestly too, I have heard that some women still use products they shouldn't when pregnant, so who knows.
You're right, pregnant women must avoid vit. A ( retinoids) topically and internally
Dear Devyn, I wouldn't use glycolic. It can be toxic to pregnant woman's liver.
Hi Devyn - when you have a pregnant client, you MUST get them to ask their doctor what ingredients to avoid. Don't make that decision - let the doctor make it; and then make a protocol that does not include those ingredients. The main reason for this is to avoid liability - if there's a birth defect, you could be in the firing line!
