I know that not all estheticians are cut out to do acne treatments.  We all come into this profession from so many different angles.  But, if you do get excited at the thought of extractions, this is a huge opportunity for you to build up a business really quickly.

When you know what you are doing with acne (it's not that hard), you can be the local expert in your community.  People will beat down your door to get an appointment!  Once I focused on just treating acne clients, my business skyrocketed!  I had to keep adding employees to keep up with the demand.  I am now up to eight employees.

Back in the day, it was more difficult to build up a clientele because word-of-mouth just wasn't that great for acne because it's such a sensitive issue.  However, with on-line review sites where people can post anonymously and tout your abilities, that has all changed.

As most of you know, dermatologists are woefully inadequate when it comes to helping people with their acne.  They all pretty much have the same routine for anyone who comes to see them (and this is worldwide I am finding out.....).  This creates a HUGE opportunity because there is such a HUGE need.

Believe me, I used to be all-thing-to-all-people and it was scary to niche market.  But I am elated that I did because it really paid off; and now it's paying off for estheticians who have that calling to help acne sufferers!  My wholesale clients have seen their businesses and profits soar after taking the risk to focus on acne as their main business.

And, not only is it financially rewarding, it is the most emotionally rewarding thing in the world to see someone's skin clear up.  It changes their life.

I'm sold. What do I need to do.

I currently own a skin care studio in a busy salon. Have not been successful getting people on board to get regular facials. But I do see that a successful business model can be created around acne.

Absolutely!  I have people that trained with me and used my business model.  Within a year they've had to hire employees to help them they became so busy.

Kudos to you, Laura, for having set the example for the rest of us.  It's my goal to be doing acne treatment exclusively within 12 months.  I don't know how realistic that is, but we'll see.  I'm speaking at high schools, have an interview on our local radio station lining up, and hope to get a feature in our local newspaper soon.  I have even taken your advice and hired a tech savant to redo my website, and to push me, sometimes kicking and screaming, into that scary, unfamiliar world of social media and review sites - it has me quaking in my boots, but I gotta do it if I'm going to blast off into the stratosphere of acne treatment.

Yes, I'd like to get on board as well; however, not sure I have the finances right now:/

Hello Laura,

Interesting topic on how to build a specialty skincare clinic focusing on acne. I currently have a skincare clinic in Laurel Maryland(Allore aesthetics LLC)..my primary focus is anti-aging treatments as well as focusing on treatment plans for individuals with skin conditions such as acne, pigmentation, deyhdrated skin, Rocacea, finelines and wrinkles, sundamage, and sensitive skin. However, I have found that my talent lies primarily in treating and developing successful treatment plans for my acne clients.

I have found that I am passionate about this group of clients(grades 1,2,3) primarily when I see successful progress with a grade 3 moving down to grade 2, then grade 1, then a few breakouts and in most cases the acne disappears. It is such a rewarding feeling!

How does one recieve training or have access to your business model.

Thanks,

Rita Edet, LMEI,MBA
