My mum is 49 she suffered acne and she still gets pimples. The problem is her skin has this pigmentation that refuses to go away. It's dark brown almost black. We have been to the best dermatologist in Kenya, he did laser which did nothing, chemical peels left her with severe burns and after healing the discoloration was back ,then he prescribed a solution with hydroquinone which mum used for 3months after which the persistent darkness reappeared. we are at wits end.
My guess is that the pigmentation is a combination of sunburns and acne scars.
Anybody can suggest something that works?
@Iris - I have a great training DVD that can give you all the information you need to clear acne at any age. If you want more info, go here.
@Jennifer - most pregnant clients cannot use salicylic or vitamin a products, but you really need to have them ask their doctor as to what ingredients to avoid. You really need to avoid any liability in case the baby is born with any birth defects. It may have nothing to do with skincare products, but people can go after you anyway. Once you find out what she needs to avoid then we can continue that conversation.
@Martha - I liken adaptation to working out at the gym. If you did the same workout every day would your muscles change and grow? No, so the same goes for the skin. What I do in my system is test my clients skin to see what their skin will tolerate when they come in. As they use product their skin will adapt, so I increase the frequency of product use. They may start out using a serum every other day for two weeks, then I'll increase it to every day for two weeks, then I will increase it to twice a day. With benzoyl peroxide they will start out just wearing it for 15 minutes a night. Every 4th day they will double the wearing time. There are many ways to "bump" up the homecare - you need an acne line that includes many "increments" in product strength so you have options. Very important!
Hi Laura, what is the best explanation to give as to why skin adapts to acne products and they stop working. In this situation ,what does one need to do?
Hi Laura, I work only with Murad products, and I wanted to know what ingredients I can use to best help my pregnant clients with their acne?
Thank you,. lb. It looks a little thicker than pus however. More cheesy like.
Paulette, in answer to your question: purulent exudate or puss
I have a few clients that suffer from adult acne....when dealing with their skin, I'm not too confident about how to give them the right advice. What pointers could you give me when doing a skin analysis and helping my clients clear up their acne.
Hello. Is there a medical name for the cheesy like substance that oozes out of pimples? I would like to use something in my notes and/or conversation than "stuff" or "ooze". : )
I run a Med Spa at a plastic surgeon's office and when I see milias around the eye area I refer them to a doctor as per my MD's instructions. I don't know about the rest of this group, but personally, I would not use a needle near the eye area no matter how much my client insisted.
I know that my skin changed completely when I stopped eating meat..even as an esthetician I had always struggled with painful cysts at least a few times a month. I stopped eating meat and after a few months was like..wait, I've not had a huge cyst. I really think the hormone laced meat was doing a number on me.
