Hi Kimberly - acne goes across the face like a wave. Wherever your oil glands mature is where you will break out next.  The oil glands mature first in the T zone - that's where acne first appears when you are a teenager.  Then it hits the cheek area, lastly the chin and jawline.  This may be why you are now breaking out there.

Hello ladies, I have a few questions to ask. what are the causes of breaking out on your cheeks and chin? I strated breaking out on my cheeks then it started on my chin. My chin got itchy then strated having pumps and pustules. I thought it may be an allergic reaction but these little pustules are like purging breakouts. I just has an intense deep cleansing facial with 20% salysitic acid peel on some of my acne. Could this be causing these problems. The acne seems like it is hormonal because of where it is but I never break out like this until the last month or so. Any advise woulld be very much appreciated and helpful.

@Rachael - we use 8% Mandelic and 15% Mandelic (two different pH strengths of each).  It's a leave on serum.  We also have2  mandelic peels - both 10% Mandelic with 5% TCA and 7.5% TCA respectively. They are self-neutralizing peels that you don't wash off.

@Veronica - check out our Skin Care Professionals page on our website - if you want more information than that, you can email me at laura@facerealityacneclinic.com

@Laura, what percentage of mandelic do you use for acne and acne scars and how long do you leave it on?

@Qia - There's not a whole lot you can do about oily skin - it's what you were born with.  There's alot we can do about acne however.

Hormones, stress, certain foods that are high in iodides or are androgenic, drugs (some drugs cause acne), fabric softeners, water softeners, comedogenic ingredients in products all exacerbate acne (but most of these things done "cause" it).

In my experience - you really need to use the right products in the right way.  Once you establish yourself as an acne expert, you don't need to "sell" products anymore - people will request them of you.  In our acne clinic, we use a combination of mandelic, vitamin a proprionate and benzoyl peroxide all used in a particular protocol that gets acne under control in about 3 months.  All of these products are reasonably priced, imo.

I have tons of free information on my websiteand blog.  I also have a training dvd that goes in to GREAT detail about all of this and how to treat it.  Another GREAT resource is Dr. Fulton's book, Acne Rx.
