Have you heard of those little salon studios/ spa studios they say it is subleasing your own room inside a building where it is your entire business. Do you feel it is a wise investment for someone with a very small clientele?

Kate, I would advise you not to worry about being on a dead end street.  Your clients will find you if they know you offer what they need. Haven't we all driven around for awhile trying to find for a small unknown cafe a friend has heartly recommended to us? The front door of your home, however, must be very inviting with much curb appeal. They won't have trouble finding a place that has given them wonderful service!  I have found that my clients feel they know of a place that not many know about when they come to my home. This makes them feel even more special!  It is always word of mouth that does the best job of advertising and I learned this after seeing it happen to me!

Sayra, your response was very timely! I had some challenges with coordinating schedules and in the end, decided not to rent a room. Someone told me that my state recently changed the regulations on home based business and that I should recheck the requirements. Turns out, my spare bedroom is already compliant and I can get a facility license. So that has worked out well!

I did Laura's Face Reality acne certification program and am hoping this particular niche will be a good fit for a home-based spa. Yes, my home has nice curb appeal and (luckily) the living room/entrance area can be seperated from the rest of the house. It makes keeping it presentable much easier! I also live in a community that has a strong support for home-based businesses with a variety of community events throughout the year.

Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it!!

Great news!  Now you can relax, a little, ha! I have to remember to turn off my phones and put a sign out on the front door that says do not disturb when clients arrive.  It is all worth it knowing I don't have to drive to work.  However, sometimes I feel I can't get away from my job when the phone rings for appointments on my days off. I have to remind myself that I am thankful for where I am, home! It keeps me on my toes to keep a clean house too, including my guest bathroom. I try to make appointments to fit my schedule, which you will also enjoy! This Christmas I have had some clients who are here for short appointments stay for tea and cookies just as a little thank you to them.  They are so pleased to get an invitation into my kitchen and the little cozy nook.  Sometimes time is the best gift to give to others with little else but a smile and encouragement. Keep us posted on how you are doing.  I will look forward to hearing from you!
