Hi Heather, I have the HTC Android which hooks up to Google, so I have a calendar, GPS, voice recorder, and other helpful tools.  I used Cell Charge for about a year, but found it easier and less expensive to switch to Square.  This is by the people who invented Twitter, and they've made it so much easier to take cc now.  No monthly fee, lower rate than Cell Charge, no paper!

I am with Verizone Wireless & am looking into the Cell Charge options.  Any advice or opinions on which Smart Phone to choose?

Hi Bonnie, I complete;y get you!! Im here in Ca. too and was working under similar circumstances a few yrs ago.  If you have a written contract stating you are an independent contractor then the owner doesnt have to take out workers comp for you because you are not an employee. If you are renting a room that too should be in the contract specifically along with/or without the  said closet. If in fact you are renting then the space is your and you should legally be able to lock it. As to the credit card machine Im supposing it is the shop owners? If so she can ask for copies simply to settle the books and the end of the day but if you are renting you can get your own machine or account so as to avoid the hassle. I hope this answers you question but feel free to contact me further. I understand your frustration when the owner plays both side of the fence to their benefit not yours!

not sure if this is the proper forum for this discussion, but I am researching spray tan machines.  I want to add this to my menu of services.  There are so many options it's overwhelming!

Any advice on which machine and/or product?  Any advice or help is much appreciated!

As far is credit card fees of $5 Ruby, I agree with Brenda...that is absolutely high way robbery! The bank doesnt even charge that much!! I have my own machine but Im an independent, although when I worked in a Salon once and the owner  didnt wanted to take charges I did have my own then as well. Check out the lead from Susan. I hear CellCharge  thru ASCP has competitive rates.

I also use CellCharge through ASCP.  It has been great and the fees are reasonable and money in my account within a few days.  Intuit also has one that is very reasonable.  I do not yet have a phone with internet just yet so I have not used intuit.  A friend of mine has and loves it.  Good Luck

I just signed up with Go Payment by Intuit. It seems pretty awesome- and as they are the ones who give us Quickbooks and TurboTax, I'd say pretty reputable. No contract, leasing fees, cancellation fees.... just a small percentage for each transaction.  www.gopayment.com

Ruby, I don't have any informtion to share about leasing but I would not pay $5 per transaction to use her cc machine.  That is rediculous!  Ruby had the right idea about going through ASCP and using the service they offer.  Good luck.

@ Ruby... ASCP gives us a discount on using and over the phone credit card ability, and you do not have to go thru your salon/spa machine to accept payments. I use this for myself with clients who wish to use cards, plus, they leave a bigger tip, can use their debit card, too, not just as credit! Good luck!

Thanks, Andrea and Dierdre!  I have a chance to reveiw the contract and will probably negotiate the length down to 6 or 9 months.  I understand the commitment piece, but this is a totally new venture for the owner. She's a massasge therapist of 8 years, the business is 10 years old, she's owned it for 5. Since the economy has been up and down she's decided to add the spa side...facials and possibly mani/pedis. I was also concerned about any exclusivity clauses.  Any suggestions on credit card terminals? I thought about getting the app for my Blackberry or iPhone. She is requiring $5 per transaction and payout the following week.
