Need advice? I rent space with a massage therapist and we are looking at renting space out to 2 hair stylist, but I really don't know the laws on doing this? Any help or advice would be great. thanks everyone.

Hi ladies. I was wondering how many of you have worked in, owned or partnered in a Co-Op. I am currently running one and it is going fairly well. One down fall is that I find it is hard to get people to commit for any significant amount of time. What do you offer your therapists as an incentive?

@ Joanna and Laura. That was my experience and I heard (at least in the Seattle area) that people have gone to use City Search instead. It is really frustrating as a new Spa/ Wellness Center to get great review and then no one is able to see them. I also read on Yelp that we are "not allowed" to request a review. Bah! How else are people to know that we need reviews? I love what you had to say about FREE Marketing! They are all amazing ways to be out in the community and  building our businsses. Thanks beautiful ladies!

@Joanna - yes, great questions.  I both verbally ask and give them a handout explaining how to post.  You're right - if they are not a part of the Yelp community their review will get pulled.  I always request them to be my friend and that helps.  Also explain to them how it works and sometimes they will post other reviews, get other friends, etc.

Laura, I read your article above; thx for posting.  About reviews - did you verbally ask, provide a handout with a link, or some other method?  The problem I've had with Yelp is that unless the reviewer is a regular reviewer, the post doesn't show - it gets filtered.  Any ideas?

@Joanna - yes, there is nothing better than what I call "strategic alliances".  You can get alot of referrals from non-competing practitioners!

I've been working on gathering referrals.  My first strong referrer was a hairdresser.  She believes in me, and let's her clients know.  She receives a discount for each client she refers.  I have targeted people who have a client base, are trusted, and are in complementary fields, ie., trainers, hairdressers, etc.  Hope this helps.

Check out the article that I just wrote (as a new Discussion).  Free, Easy and Effective Marketing for Your Small Business.  These are actual strategies I used to grow my business really quickly.

I use my website to offer a monthly promotion. Every month. With the economy the way it is; I think hmm? Would I spend that much money on something like this? Offering a re-book discount helps to keep them coming back, and the monthly one changes to target different clientele. I still have a hard time keeping them in regularly but it helps for some. I like to buy one ~ get (something) discount. It gets them coming in more than one time to see the benifit of commitment. Thanks for all joining and sharing :) I'm EXCITED!

I have discounted services as much as 20% and targeted those clients who I have not seen for awhile.  For those who are my regulars, I have discounted products, i.e. spend $100 in products, receive $35.00 off.
