Esti Student! Just need a bit of advice--

I'm a student at the Cinta Aveda Institute in San Francisco, and I was wondering how I should go about finding a place to work, especially around here in the city?

I do want to get started even before I graduate, however, since I have Saturday classes, it's been quite a challenge. Most places are looking for someone who can work weekends. Which is understandable, don't get me wrong--but JEEZ! Can't a girl get her foot in the door somewhere at least?

Resume advice is very much accepted as well. I would like to beef it up ASAP.

Shelley Hancock here. I own Real Transformation Advanced Training Center in Foster City California. My advise is to get as much education under your belt as possible. I have been a Spa owner for almost 25 years now. When hiring Estheticians, I look for those that are hungry for information and willing to put in the time and work to learn. We all have had to pay our dues but it definitely turns out awesome in the end. Please be sure not to "beef up" your resume with things that aren't true, because it could very well back fire on you once you get your foot in the door somewhere and it's obvious that what you know has been beefed up!

I agree with Shelley, Cinta. The most important thing for you now is to get a good education! The more the better. You will have the confidence to do what is needed and that will come across to your clients as well. This is a wonderful forum, so many areas of interest and lots of expertise. Listen and continue to ask questions. Dig into the various periodicals and magazines for Estys and go to classes, workshops and take webinars. There is such a wealth of information and growing daily. When I started (29 yrs ago) there wasn't much. So Yes, Beef up your knowledge not your resume! Best to you and I applaud your enthusiasm!
