I have been a Massage Therapist for 8yrs and an Esthetician for 4yrs.  It has been a slow road building up my esthetic skills, experience, and business. But I am still at it!  Sometimes I find it difficult to switch gears between the two roles - energy and demeanor required in the treatment room are so very different.

My Clients love gadgets.  My latest is the spatula and portable micro current.  I use Yonka products.  Any new products that really work for you, please let me know.

It's true, I cannot legally perform massage until I have my practitioner certificate.  Looks like my friends and family will be guinea pigs. 'Til then and I can elaborate on the massage I offer during facials.

Hopefully this will be a good resource for you, Beth! Each state is different with massage laws, and I am not familiar with California's laws regarding massage therapy. In Florida, it is illegal to perform massages (even if they are free) at a spa/studio/etc. without first obtaining a massage establishment license. If there was a way you could incorporate your massage techniques into your facials I think that would be a good idea -  and let all your clients know that you soon will be a licensed massage professional. But, I am not familiar with California laws so I think that would be the place to find an indisputable answer. Hope this helps and good luck!

So glad this group was created.  I am currently studying massage therapy and seeking guidance on how to go about gaining massage clients from my esthetician clients.  I thought about offering free massages when they book a facial.  That would give me practice and build income.  Is that legal since I'm not charging for the massage?

oops!  My cat jumped up and hit the send button:)  any way I was saying that I now work in a very nice spa and really enjoy it.  I got a little lonely on my own, and then the economy made it hard for me to stay in business where I was located.  I love being part of a team and being able to work with 4 product lines has been great.

Hi Lesley,

Glad to get this started with you.  Looking forward to sharing and learning about other experiences with dual licensed estys/massage therapists.

I love being dual because of the variety and joy of skin care and body therapy.  It is such a perfect compliment to each modality.  I have been a CMT for over 20 years in California and and aesthetician for 4.  Had my own space for about a year, and now I wo

I've been an LMT for eight years, and an aesthetician for six. Two years ago I opened a small organic spa in Florida.  I'd love to network and share experiences with other dual - licensed professionals.
