Angela, I work at a medical spa and you are right! Today we were VERY slow. I'm thinking - maybe people are saving for the Holiday spending and probably is a good time for mass emailing gift certificate ideas... maybe do a 'Holiday Party' with raffles and promotions. That's what we did a couple of weeks ago...

Just wondering if everyone was busy and what your secret is? I am in Daytona and it has been slow since before Thanksgiving.  I have been running specials and doing all that I can but still very slow.  Any tips are appreciated!

@Sheila... I know your post is very old but just wanted to give you where I have been getting most of my continuing edu at the dermalinstitute.com Here in Fl there is one in Fort Lauderdale and one in Orlando. Not sure how far you are from those... They do have a whole day class in Waxing techniques :)

three questions

1) I just received my license last Sept or Oct and I just noticed that I already have to renew this year.  I thought that we had to renew every two years.  Confused!!

2) Any recommendations for continuing education links for Florida?

3) Really interested in getting more waxing training.  Any ideas of where to find this?

Thanks Florida Estheticians!

Joellene:  don't you find that ridiculous?  If you look at the regs it clearly states "License must be visible".  Also when you submitted your CEU you must use your "License". Hopefully someday the Board will get their terminology straight.

PS: Estheticians in Florida are not "Licensed", they are "Registered." Look at your "license" and you will see it says "REGISTRATION." Cosmetologists and Barbers are licensed. This is a common misconception.

Yes. Lisa Long does the Esthetics classes Fort Pierce. She is an excellent teacher. I taught them in Stuart, but we kept having trouble filling two 260 hour classes that do not qualify for Financial Aid, so I switched to teaching Cosmetology in Fort Pierce, and I only jump in and teach the Esthetics as needed now. Currently we aren't running any Esthetics classes in Stuart. But if the 600 hour program takes off and we have enough call for two classes, that could change.

I imagine Lisa Long is the other instructor?

It's a clock-hour program. Florida only requires 260 hours, but in reality that is not enough time to cover the way we want to , so after we cover what we are required to in the basic and the students have been certified by the state, we are now offering the advanced, startling this August. The 260 is not covered by financial aid as it is not enough hours but the 600 hour class is covered! I will be teaching portions of the advanced class, along with a wonderful colleague who will teach most of it (I currently teach Cosmetology and Esthetics). We are VERY excited about this course!

Because you have to pass the 260 hours to get your Florida Skin Care Specialist's registration (license) at which time you can get a job... The 260 class also gives you the opportunity decide if it is really what you want. Then you can move on to the advanced class. The 600 hours will be on Th & Fridays, so you can work in a salon/spa in the meantime.
