I have a client that I see regularly tha has oily skin. Her face is clear, but so so oily. I see her once a month, and we Dermafile and do a peel. Usually the glycolic or cranberry turnover peel. I was thinking of doing both, the alpha hydroxy protocol that we have with skinscript. If I do that should it help with oil control? Can I Dermafile her as well? Please help.

Hi Madalene:  Yes, I like your idea of the alpha beta (which is a layer of glycolic, removed, then a layer of Cranberry turnover 20% salicylic).  For homecare, I would incorporate the Blemish Control Pads as her toner daily to help dissolve the excess oil.  While she may not have blemishes, the salicylic will help control oil.

ABH protocol is great.

I don't see a need for dermafiles - but you could use them if you wanted to.

I always tell clients that 80% of having great skin is what they use at home.

Pro treatments alone will not do it.

You need to stress the use of proper home care...

Blemish Control cleanser, Blemish Control Pads (if needed), Hydrating serum, Cucumber Mist, and Light Aloe moisturizer if needed.

I usually add the hydrating products because skin producing too much oil often indicates dehydration. Introducing more water into the skin help balance oil/water AND helps the skin's natural enzyme production

She uses they glycolic pads at home. Should she add blemish control pads? She is strict with her home care regimen.

I like the salicylic (oil based exfoliant will dissolve more oil than a water-based exfoliant [glycolic]) in the Blemish toner pads.
