This question is really about bikini waxing.  I decided to put it out to those of you who I am sure also do bikini waxing. I have clients who book a bikini wax, but actually want much more area waxed, often it is practically a brazilian... While I willingly accomodate the requests of my clients I also recognize that there is increased time taken and probably twice as much product used. So I am asking for any input if you have a way on your menu of services and on the phone when someone is booking to handle a waxing service that is much more than a bikini, but not the complete hair removal of the Brazilian.

To make you feel even better, MOST schools get little training on waxing in general let alone Brows and Brazilians.  Schools are there to impart the info need to pass the state test not to teach students how to actually do the services they will be asked to do and make money.  Sad, but true.

Cricket, you don't know how happy you just made me! Thanks! Hard wax is my favorite too. I'm going to check out your DVD. Our instructor at school didn't even shows how to do a Brazilian. What I learned was from my book!

Jennifer, LOL  are you kidding me!  You did your first Brazilian in an hour (which is awesome) and you're worried that you took too long?  My first Brazilian took me 2 1/2 hours.  You must be a fellow over achiever:)

The only thing that will get your speed up is practice.  But you want to make sure you are practicing the right way, with the right techniques.  I would rec my Brazilian waxing dvd, The Secret Life of Brazilian Waxing.   You mentioned both hard and soft wax, so I'm not sure which you are using, but the dvd has both demos an both male and female models. I am a hard wax girl all the way and I can do a Brazilian in 15-25 minutes.   You can find this dvd and others on my websitte www.thewaxchick.com  I think you are going to rock it once you get the right skills and practice under your belt. Happy Waxing!

Hi Crickett! Yes, that makes sense. I am new and did my first Brazilian yesterday. It took me an hour. The client seemed happy with the results. When I was in school, the had us use powder for soft wax but not hard wax. I then went to a skin show and took a waxing class. I couldn't remember if she used powder or not. In the end, I think I did well for the first time. My shop is a block away from a college so I really want to market waxing to the college students. I just need to get my speed up...

Hi Jennifer.  First, a particular wax doesn't make you faster at performing a service. Your efficiency and skill is what will make you faster, no matter what wax you are using.

As for using powder, all the rules apply to all waxes across the board.  Wax won't stick to oily or damp skin, so if your client has either of these then you would apply powder to absorb the excess moisture.

If what you really want is to increase your speed, you need to look at how efficiently you are performing your service. If you still work the same with a new wax, your speed will be the same. Make sense?

Do you use powder with film wax? I can't find an answer anywhere. I want to try film wax on a client to see if it speeds me up.

URGENT NOTICE

My friend Lori Crete (The Esthetician Mentor) called me and said she was having dinner with a group of Estheticians at the Chicago Show this past weekend, who said they were going to come hear me speak in Canada.

Now, before you go out and buy a tuke and a plane ticket to the great white north, I thought I'd make sure you all know that the show is in Ontario CALIFORNIA, not Ontario Canada.

Just for the record, I love Canada (even though they kicked me out last time I was there).  Long story:)

I hope to see you all in ONTARIO CALIFORNIA MAY 19TH.

@ Cliche... I wax clients right up to 9 mths. It can sometimes be a bit trickier but in general I wax exactly the same. The labia can be more swollen depending how far along they are so just be aware of some different terrain. I always add a pre/post oil before I wax so peeling is not an issue for me. I often talk to the baby while I'm waxing saying things like, 'now little baby you stay in there because I don't want to add birthing a child onto my resume'

Lori,  training is the answer to your problems.  If you can't find someone in your area for hands-on, then dvd's are the next best thing (thanks for the plug Deborah :) )    I also have lots of tutorials on how to use hard wax on my website www.thewaxchick.com  you can find my dvd The Secret Life of Brazilian waxing there too.  When it comes to Brazilian waxing you need to "see" with your eyes and practice what you learn.  We have all had bad Brazilian waxing experiences so don't let it freak you out, just learn from it and become better.
