This term describes efforts to prevent the spread of diseases as well as killing microbes. There are three levels of control; SANITATION, DISINFECTION, and the highest level is STERILIZATION. While in the workplace, cross-contamination can be prevented by simple steps such as washing yours hands, using latex or non-latex gloves (when preforming waxing services and extractions), safety glasses may even be needed in some cases. Disinfect your station before & after every client- Think Clean! Use bleach and hot water when laundering white esthetic towels and manicuring clothes. Implements in the Spa/Salon also have to be bacteria free, such as extraction tools, tweezers, combs, brushes, scissors, barbering clippers, fingernail clippers, etc. All disposable implements MUST be thrown away after using on the client. When performing waxing services, keep the outer portion of the pot as clean and wax free as possible. NEVER double dip the applicator, as this WILL contaminate the wax pot. Take "Universal Precautions" throughout the day as you give your client the best quality experience possible.
