I am the esthetician thats only been licensed for a little over a year working at a new salon and spa and I need some ideas on how to build my clientele here. We've only been open 3 months and the rest of the salon is doing pretty decent for the time we've been open, but my end of the business has been pretty slow for the exception of some pretty busy weeks so far. We have already had 2 specials go out that included facials but most of the people that signed up for it have already come in, they were all satisified and raved to my boss and co-workers how awesome the facial was, but so far no one has rescheduled. I was thinking about doing seasonal facials with catchy names to peak peoples interest, and also a loyalty and referal program. What are some things that have worked well for you in the past and now that has gained you repeat clientele? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help! :)

I have been in the industry for 11 years and am now self employeed, I remember when I fisrt started doing facials how hard it was to get cleints in my facial room so I took matters into my own hands and started walking around the salon (with a bottle of hand lotion in one hand) and began introducing my self to clients that were getting hair cuts, color and so on.... Clients LOVED the complimentary hand massage. Also, while I was giving them a 5 min hand massage, I woud introduce myself to them and sell my services as well (in a very proffesional not too pushy kind of way) I would also offer them $10 off on their first facial service and you wouldn't believe how many clients began booking their services with me and learned that there was an Estethician in the salon... I say give it a go, it was a lifesaver for me and I hope it works for you too! Best of luck and hustle, hustle, hustle!! LOL!! ;)

I truly believe in helping each other out and am so excited to be part of this Forum which I found online by chance just a few days ago.. I am now addicted to it and log on often, lol. Very informative and lots of great advice from fellow Estheticians...  Just what I was looking for!! :)

I like your idea of a seasonal facial...I do Enzyme peels from Skin Script, and they have some nice ones you can choose for each season. I just ordered pumpkin orange enzyme for the Fall, it's right around the corner! Good Luck!

I have been self-employed for 6 years now and have a pretty steady clientele.  I use referral cards a lot.  Hand out 5 business cards to your clients with a discount written on the back as well as that client's name.  Explain to her that for each card that comes back will earn her a discount as well.  She can use them one at a time or save them up.  If each card comes back, that is 5 new potential clients, and 25 new potential clients from them and so on.  It works great!  Also, leave cards with discounts with the hair and nail girls.  Make sure you clarify on the cards that the discount is for new clients only.  Good luck.

one thing to do is to have a questionnaire for the client to fill out and offer a discount for rebooking that day (and to bring in their questionnaire, but they will usually fill it out quickly and give it back). Never drastically discount your services! I love Yadira's idea of the complimentary hand massage! If a client comes in early or a stylist is running late, you can offer a mini facial (as little as 20 minutes could be cleanse, nice massage with a nourishing mask, remove mask and apply moisturizer) around here services are mostly $1/minute and people have NO problem handing over a $20 versus even $25 or $30...if you can work on feet in your state you could offer 15 minute foot and lower leg moisturizing treatment/massage for $15...just getting them into your wonderful treatment room will keep them coming back!!!

One more thing...you could work a little deal with the stylists in your salon...if they send you 3 clients you could give them a free facial...you could also offer them a reduced rate on a 30 minute or full facial in exchange for them bragging on you...that way they can really sell how wonderful you are :)

Hi Courtney I'm not a huge fan of Groupon-like deals... but Constant Contact has a new service called SaveLocal. It's "Free" take a look at it. Might be a helpful tool. Heres a sample of a special I'm running. They only get $3 . I like the social/viral aspect of it. Good luck. :)

Sending personal handwritten thank you cards to the clients who already stopped in for a facial is a nice touch. We very seldom do written notes anymore and its always a nice surprise...add in a slight reminder to visit again. Sometimes people get so caught up with life they forget to take care of themselves:) Good Luck!
