Here's my short/sweet answer. No they are not the same.
While both are electrical pieces of equipment, ultrasound/ultrasonic is sound waves, while Galvanic is direct electrical current.
Galvanic (+) current "pushes" (actually pulls) water-based ingredients past the dermal-epidermal junction by creating tiny permeations in that junction, which is both a physical (mucous membrane), and a chemical (steril on the dermis side) barrier. It is therefore CRUCIAL to explain to your client that they do not expose themselves to chemicals for the next 48 hours (including swimming in a chlorinated pool) post treatment.
Ultrasound/Ultrasonic creates an "earthquake" effect by very high frequency sound waves that allow ingredients to fall between the "cracks" created by those sound waves.

Galvanic is different from ultrasonic. A simple explanation of ultrasonic is that it uses sound and high frequency vibration to create small openings in the stratum corneum and exfoliate the skin with a mechanical movement. Hows that for a mouthful and it really does not get into the actual scientific description. Both galvanic and ultrasonic are great modalities and very safe if used correctly. As far as how to use it, it depends on your manufacturer. Go ahead and send me an email sschmaling@ascpskincare.com with your instructions and I can get you some protocol info.
I love the bt-micro too ! but mostly for the exfoliation aspect of it... i found that my ultra sound machine provided a somewhat better penetration of product. However, i'm wondering if it matters whether to use a water base or oil based product with the bt micro? and if oil based (coconut oil) is ok with all of the settings or certain ones or not at all. ? I'm new to this forum and not sure if i should have started a new thread on these questions or not. Either way, i'm thrilled with the bt micro for the couple hundred bucks that it cost. :)
High Frequency warms the skin, may increase circulation somewhat, and is anti-bacterial. Not for product penetration except minimally.
Ultrasound kind of creates through sound waves kind of an "earthquake dissonance" where the skin is creating (loosely!) cracks or gaps or fissures that allows product to "fall in between those cracks for better penetration.
Galvanic is my penetration of choice. Use only water-based serums to penetrate with an ultrasound gel over to conduct the electricity. Galvanic works (again Loosely!) by creating tiny permeations at the dermal/epidermal layer, allowing for better penetration than ultrasound. Use the (-) mode first, then switch to the (+) mode to cause an astringent action to finish. Always do (+) if you do (-). Always.
