I wish I was closer so I can do some hands-on training. I just purchased the DVD (Brazilian only) by Crickett. I'm getting ready to line up some friends and family members to practice on.
I'm going to line up some friends too!
Awesome advice. Thank you so much.
It all depends on how you learn, your attitude toward Brazilian/Brow waxing (especially) and your experience.
Is hands-on the preferred method? Yes of course, but what if you don't live near someone who can provide qualified hands-on training? Or you can't afford hands-on training?
Then dvds are the next best option. I have watched pretty much all of the waxing dvds out there, and for the most part was disaapointed. You couldn't really see what they were doing. The camera angles were terrible and they don't provide enough detail to help you do everything the right way.
The dvds that I have created are up close and personal you see EVERYTHING you need to see you get the most detailed of instructions (you may have to watch over and over to catch it all) to make sure your technique is good. The other great thing about dvds is that you can watch them over and over any time you want to refresh.
When you take a hands-on class if you go home and don't practice you will forget everything and lose confidence which will make you not want to practice. With dvds you always have them by your side to help you through a difficult situation.
I would say the most difficult thing about Brazilian waxing is getting over the fear of doing it. Fear makes us hesitant and that can cause major problems for our clients.
So, if you are someone who is not afraid to wax the Brazilian area and just wants to make sure you are getting the technique down to perform the service correctly, you would probably do fine with a dvd.
If you are afraid of doing Brazilians, watching a dvd may help to take some of that fear away allowing you to build confidence as you go.
The worst thing to do is to hunt and peck through Brazilian waxing without any type of training (hands-on or dvd) You will just teach yourself bad habits and create more room to injure your clients.
Education, in any form, is better than nothing at all.
Crickett, thank you so much for your thorough and detailed response. I look forward to buying the DVDs as I now know they will help me. And yes, education, in any form, is better than nothing at all.
I have the dvd's and while they give me info actual hands-on makes a huge difference. It took me a bit, but now I have brazilians down. My problem is brozilians. I have not done one hands on. I don't have someone that I can practice on. (My husband refuses to be my model.)
I'd like hands-on training. I live in Washington state and can't seem to find an advanced waxing class here. Traveling is even more expensive. It would be nice if people could get together to make a class here.
