I have dry skin and that does not change as the seasons change. Granted, I live in California where we don't have these dramatic seasonal changes but I still feel confident that my skin would not be oily if I moved to New York. :) I keep reading (and I've always heard this) that we need to change our routine and products when it gets warmer or colder.

What are your thoughts on this? I never change my skin care. When it gets super dry, I might do something to add more hydration to my skin for that day but that's it. This is also true for my clients. I don't change their products and I don't see a difference in their skin. I might change up their routine a little bit (more exfoliation, less exfoliation, etc) but the products remain the same.

Obviously the facials change based on what their skin might need at the time.

Hi Devyn,

LIke you I pretty much keep my routine the same...however, in the "dry" times of the year (Nov-Mar) my skin likes a heavier moisturizer. That's because the southwest gets really dry in the winter. People who live along the coast typically don't experience as much dryness over the winter months. I think this concept of heavier moisture in the dry months in something to be aware of. I would take it on an individual basis. As you know, there is not a "one-size-fits-all" answer in skin care. Also, I think you're right on when you say that you will vary the exfoliation that you are doing in the treatment room. Love it!

Thanks Dave. Sometimes I read this stuff online and in magazines and I feel crazy because I find myself disagreeing with so much of it that it makes me start to question my methods. Thank goodness for this forum! :)

Every time I see my client, I always ask about their routine and if they feel like it is working. Plus, I can tell if it is or not. I do this even if they aren't using the products I retail. The only time I've had to change is when their acne and oily skin has improved and they no longer need to use the Light Aloe Moisturizer and can switch to Ageless Skin. That has just been my experience though. I actually have my clients use grape seed oil at night as their moisturizer and that has done wonders for skin. They all love it and even get family members on it too. It makes such a difference so quickly too and that helps with so many issues (breakouts, hydration, redness, blackheads, etc).

As a man, what do you think is the best advice for your skin? Generally speaking. I write tips and stuff on my biz FB page but I don't do much for men so I'm thinking I could this month since it's Father's Day. THANKS!

I'm always trying to figure out a way to get more male clients but it's not that easy. Luckily, the ones I do have seem to be happy and actually come in for regular facials and are using Skin Script. :) I get so much satisfaction when a guy will buy a regimen!

I like your comment about feeling crazy due to too much informaton! I agree, there are varied opinions out there but at the end of the day you have to draw upon your own foundational knowledge and decided for yourself what is best for your clients.

As a guy, I like to keep my homecare simple. Cleanse, moisturize, a treatment serum and then spf. Even though men sometimes can be hesitant to get involved with professional skin care once they do they have a tendency to become one of your best and loyal clients. Educate your male clientelle and keep it simple. They will follow!

You might want to run a special specifically for men. Think about a "get to know me" facial in which you could offer a lower priced service which would also include a retail cleanser and moisturizer. Think about a treatment like: Green Tea Cleanser, Pomegranate Enzyme, a rockin' facial massage then Seaweed Mask. The retail component would be Green Tea Cleanser and the moisturizer would be Ageless Skin Moisturizer. Position this package as a one-time deal and then coach them into other serivces and retail products as time goes on. Take it slow...no need to overwhelm anyone!

Thank you! I usually keep it simple with men. It seems they are generally more lazy about their skin even if they say they want better skin. :)
