I am curious as to the general consensus about facial waxing clients who have used OTC retinol (in eyecreams etc).

I am so paranoid about lifting skin that I always recommend threading to these clients which is a service that I don't even offer so I have to refer them out.

Is there a period of time they can stop using the OTC retinol and then get waxed or is it simply not worth the risk?

I have specialized in facial waxing for almost 4 years and the only otc Retinol that has ever caused pulling has been Skinceuticals' Retinol Cream. Additionally, if someone is like a 1 or 2 on the Fitzpatrick scale, ProActive might cause some light lifting.

My suggestion is to tweeze these clients instead of referring them away. It's good that you are being cautious though! It is a scary thing when you ask a new client if they are using prescription Retinol or antibiotics and they say "No one has asked that when I've done this before."
