Hi everyone! I've been treating a client with acne scarring and PIH and she has recently become pregnant. Does anyone have any suggestions on what products I can recommend for her? Thank you!

Lactic acid and Vitamin C are known to be pregnancy-safe, but it is always best to ask her to obtain her doctor's approval in addition to anything you recommend. Those two ingredients won't lighten the skin alone, though in my opinion they're worth using to minimize the development of new hormone-related pigmentation.

Most pros in both esthetics and dermatology would recommend waiting to tackle pigmentation until after she has given birth and weaned if she will be nursing.  At that point, things like stronger peels, laser, microneedling, etc. become options, along with daily topical retinoids and hydroquinone.

The #1 best thing she can do for her skin right now is sun protection and keeping her skin clear (lactic acid again, and also topical sulfur is fine) so that there is less additional pigment and scarring to manage once she is through her term.  Belli's lactic acid cleanser and sulfur spot treatment are very nice, although I have not been able to bring them into my practice yet because the company is such a pain to order from :/

I have seen pregnant clients' acne clear up during their pregnancies, but I have also seen it made worse, or seen it be compounded by other skin issues that arise (dry/dehydrated skin, eczema, sensitized skin, and more).  Some health basics for acne care that will also help her avoid gestational diabetes include eating low on the glycemic index, making sure to stay on track with her prenatal vitamins, avoiding trans fats and artificial sweeteners, drinking lots and lots of water, and adding Omega 3's if they are not already included in her prenatal blend (many include them now, however).  She can also ice her skin at any point, for any reason, and it can only help, not hurt.  Irritation?  Ice.  Breakout?  Ice.  Face feels flushed?  Ice.

Coldsalineplexus, I give cold globes for the face to all my pregnant clients and also recommend to them iced tea bags!!!

If you're pregnant, you're likely bombarded with so many do's and don'ts according to everyone's opinions. With all this noise and static, isn't it refreshing to hear what you can do to make yourself feel and look good? Well, there are some acne product and wrinkle creams that support your skin-stretching the most. Not only are these products safe for those expecting, but they help with everything from stretch marks to acne breakouts to dry, itchy skin.

Managing acne when you're pregnant can be tricky. That's because many prescription and over-the-counter treatments come with a high risk of birth defects. In general, you should avoid any medication you don't absolutely need when you're pregnant that has even a remote chance of harming your baby. There are some more brands in market as recently heard about Zeroblem acne serum, that is clinically proven and safe to use.

There are many products, that gives you satisfied results for any skin type. But must once contact Dermatologist for secure living. Reviews are fine about the product but still your looks are our concern, Stay safe and beautiful.

What are you treating her with currently? How were the results? My thoughts would include a melanin suppressant of some sort into her home care. Whats her Fitz?
