Can I please get advice as to the best protocol for acne when doing a peel series. I have one cient that has come to me twice so far, spaced one week apart. I used the glycolic on her the first time, after exfoliating with the retinol scrub. The second time, I used the glycolic only because she was so broken out, I was afraid to use the scrub or an enzyme before it. I calmed it with the seaweed mask after I used the glycolic. Any suggestions on how I can get her the best results? She is coming for the next four weeks trying to get her skin under control. She is starting on the skinscript products today. Cleansing with blemish control. Using the glycolic pads, light aloe moisture and spf.
Hi Madalene: Have you tried the Cranberry Turnover 20% Salicylic peel? Is the acne inflamed? It is pustular? Papular? Closed comedomes?
Remember that glycolics allow the dead surface skin to exfoliate allowing trapped acne to purge. Usually after the first couple of peels it does it get worse. I advise them that they will likely get worse before they get better. I sketch this out on piece of paper for my clients. I draw an impacted pore, explain how glycolics will break down desmosomes and that purging of trapped oil will be occurring. Once they know what to expect, they are content and keep going with the series. If you've heard any of my trainings I always say "have you ever done a glycolic peel and the client calls saying its worse?" Of course. Keep going to get that sebum in a free-flowing state.
Remember that it takes 28 days for the skin to change. I look for a significant change in the skin after 4 weeks.
Awesome, Awesome! thank You Lisa!!! I told her exactly that, and I just got the cranberry peel from skinscript yesterday! I ordered it because of this client. I feel so much better now! I did explain exactly what you said about the purging, but when I saw her skin this week I felt so bad and wanted to make sure I am on target. I am so encouraged, especially because I am new at this! Thank you for being there! I love skinscript!!!!
In answer to your question (sorry, I got too excited), the acne is not pustular. More papular, red blemishes, more raised than pustular. She is able to cover with her makeup.
I think we all get frustrated and want immediate results, but we know that it really does take time to work on it. Have patience. With the papular acne, consider more hydration, such as the Cucumber Toner. It will help hydrate the skin and has fructooligosaccharides which is a great pro-biotic for the skin. It promotes growth of healthy probiotic bacteria to strengthen skin immunity.
Yes, I will do that. I will use and recommend that she purchase the toner as well. Sometimes she does complain her skin feels dry. Thank you again!
Wow! Thank you for letting us know. Good skin care is only as great as the aesthetician who uses them in creative ways to make a difference in the skin. Kudos Madalene!
