Hello everyone I am just wondering if you can give me an advice about safety and protection while performing the facials, I am loving my job and helping my clients with their skin concerns but there are sometimes when I am not sure if I should wear gloves all the time or not? I find very unconfortable to do a facial with gloves since I can't really feel the client skin but I know it is important to protect ourselves. Does anybody knows what kind of gloves are very good to use?  Thank you in advance.

Yes Amy Cold Sores are contraindications I do not perform a facial if I see a cold sore definitely use gloves in case anyways thanks so much :)

I have a very unique take on this and it comes from being on the mfgr and education side of the business.

First: Gloves stink and make a facial feel plastic.

Second:  The need for gloves (not extractions or acne type treatments) came from the band camp of germs and all the other horrible things we need to be scared of.  Hawgwash!

Third: Ask your client what they want and feel comfortable with.

My goodness... Touch'em! That is what a facial is. And by the way, the last time I had someone touch me :) their hand and skin felt very nice, warm and comforting. Holy #$%^! next time I will say oh please stop can you put some latex gloves on first?!?! oh... Sorry, make that non latex, I might have a reaction.

Ask your client.  You can never go wrong if you do that.  My 2 cents...

Thanks Marty I definitely agree a facial is never the same when perform with gloves I hate wearing gloves I usually only wear them if I have a cut or if the client has something I am not sure of what it is but I explain them about why I wear them and they are ok with it for me is all about the clients first. Thanks :)

I use gloves for:

Micros, Peels, Waxing, Extractions, (always)....and often for the skin analysis. If I see no worries, the gloves come off for the rest of the skin analysis and facial.  And I wash or sterilize my hands after everything. One more thing....I always, always wear a surgical mask. I don't want to catch a cold !

Oh wow that is great I was actually thinking about the surgical glove but we don't carry that where I work I had catch colds few times from clients who came sick :/ I should do that too. I do wear gloves for extractions for sure and if I see any weird skin condition lately I have been wearing gloves during the whole facial I feel a lot safe for both client and myself. Thank you so much Tamara for sharing :)

i havent used gloves a lot before, just for extractions or peel, but right now i think im gonna do treatments with gloves ( i like nitrile ones) because i feel my hands are getting dryer and dryer, im working for a spa and have no choice as far as product line. But fortunetely we will have another new line pretty soon and i'm very excited.

Hi Kristina I am doing the same now lately I been wearing gloves too I think is a lot better and more safe that way you never know. Thanks

Patricia, totally agree. Also last year i remember i had a rash on my hand, it came from nowhere, i meant i didnt do anything in particular, but all of sudden my hand started to itch and i there was a rash, im guessing i got it from client (couldnt figure it out from whom). It took me a while to have my hand back to normal. So gloves are our protection and client protection.
