Renting a room

I'm an Esthetician.I!m planning to rent a small room in the parlor.Can someone guide me and give me legal advise.Any information like my rights as renter and contracts will be highly appreciated.

Make sure you have a CONTRACT!!! In it will answer questions like WHO is responsible for what, how much you pay, etc. Also, don't forget things like signage, answering phones, laundry, there's all kinds of things. Lots of things to think about with this one. Retail? Licenses? Booking? etc.

I'm having trouble with my landlord so be sure that before you sign the room and the agreement is exactly as YOU want it. Have a friend or someone not personally involved go over it with you. We tend to get so excited about the possibilities we over look minor details. First off the words small room that's the first clue. Sometimes salon's like to place in their storage closet's converted to esty room. They are trying to make extra rent money so they convert the closet to a room. Also, very important, how quiet is this room. Will there be a lot of chitter chatter from the salon. Nothing makes a client more frustrated than this chitter chatter. Trust me I know a lot about this. My (potential) clients have told me so in fact flat out told me they were not coming back because of the noise. Something to think about. Next, your own access to the building at any time. I had to ask the salon owner to come by the shop and open it so I could move in furniture and such. It was a Sunday and well they don't do that on Sunday. So make sure YOU have direct access to YOUR business at all times. As you can tell I've had my run in with Salon owner's not respecting my rights and my business. Please if you can find your own place do so you'll appreciate the serenity and so will your clients.
