I am currently an Esthetics student. At school, I was told be another student and the instructor that we had to be licensed to wax anything on the face, but not anything else - meaning we could wax legs, bikini area, etc without needing to be licensed. I emailed our board and he referred me to http://www.lrc.ky.gov/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40894

I am very surprised by this. So does that mean I could go do brazilian and bikini waxes on the side while I am still in school???

Thanks!

I wouldn't attempt a brazilian without some proper training, regardless of the laws. You might not be jeopardizing your license, but you'll potentially be jeopardizing your name if you don't know what you're doing. Also you may not have access to quality products without your license. Waxing is not as straightforward as everyone thinks. Otherwise I wouldn't have so many of my clients share their at-home waxing horror stories ^_^
Well of course I would not do it until I feel ready. I do have common sense. :) We have been doing them in school. As a student, was also can shop in professional stores such as Cosmoprof. I was just expressing my surprise over even being able to do this...was not really expecting that response since you do not even know what I have been trained in...lol.
I think you're assuming the tone of my comment is negative towards you, and it's not. You said that you are still in school, and schools here do not teach brazilian waxing.
My school taught us brazilian waxing and male brazilians...With a live model and everything in the wet room.
I have done both brazilian and bikini at the school. We have had alot of training with it.

Well in that case, make sure that you're complying with your state laws on where you're able to do services, and happy waxing!

I was not taught how to do Brazillian or Bikini waxes at school. But it's not really rocket science. If you know how to do it on the face (those eyebrows take me forever!) BUT, I have to say this is really scary since you defiantely want to GO to someone who was licensed.  This law makes me angry and is just the problem with our business! Grrr!

Anyway, sounds like you can do them now. It also means ANYBODY can do that! Be careful! (Note to self: do not get my who ha waxed in Kentucky)
