Hey guys, so I asked this in the SS group but I would like a wider response. I am struggling with finding a product that is light weight, fairly naturally based (this is a constant debate esp in sunscreen land) but has legs to really protect my clients. I do a lot of resurfacing and peels so a good SPF is critical and I feel like I'm just not finding the miracle product I'd like to offer for retail.

The kicker, I work solo so the company has to have small min purchases and not a huge "buy in" to get wholesale. I use Skin Scripts for enzymes, peels, serums and eye treatments with crazy success but I find the SPF is heavy and hard to work in. I use some Dermalogica because it's the back bar I got in school and have depended on the 50 spf booster thus far for after facials. I really want something I can sell off the shelf that my clients can count on.

(Oh and while I'm dreaming it would be a plus if retail was under or around $40-$50 max…. I know, I want it all!!! )

Help a girl out?

Ally, I went to look at Coola ingredients but it doesn't have Zinc oxide which is the ingredient that truly protects us from the sun from damage. The Octinoxates and Octocrylenes can be clogging :(

also:

"Octocrylene can penetrate into the skin and act as a photosensitizer, resulting in an increased production of free radicals."

"Octinoxate is a moderate hazard, primarily because it can lead to developmental and reproductive toxicity through enhanced skin absorption. It’s a penetration enhancer and is easily absorbed into the skin. It can produce estrogen-like effects and should not be used by pregnant women and children."

I don't use titanium either I was just making a comparison that *if* I have to choose which one would it be but I do try to avoid it :/ I prefer using zinc oxide alone which is why I'm still using SS spf but I wish it was less sticky. I make it work somehow. No one had complained yet either! :D

btw, I'm watching this post too as I want a similar product for my practice! :)

This is the only idea I have:

colorescience pro sunforgettable mineral powder brush SPF 30 has zinc oxide but also titanium dioxide but I truly prefer using titanium dioxide than the other "spf" agents. Also jane iredale has a nice face powder spf 30 but it's titanium dioxide. I like the fact that the client may be able to skip a step which is the base or foundation. jane iredale also has the 'amazing base' (primer) with spf 20, which can be applied under these powders. I use this and leaves your skin SUPER silky!!! You can get a coverage up to 40 spf with the primer and the face powder. BUT then again, that will be tricky to get a client to purchase both products. :(

oops I meant "smooth affair" not amazing base :P

I am having the same issue. I also use ss but don't really care for their sunscreen for many of my clients especially those who are acne prone. Right now I am using Refinee' Daily Defense cream spf30. I like it but it is little too moisturizing for some skin and it has a little sheen to it so not the best for those who don't wear makeup (although beautiful under makeup). It is also has zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the active ingredients which I love but it just isn't the right fit for ALL of my clients. Has anyone tried image's ss line?

I bought into Botanical Science because of their sunblock.  It is amaze-balls. :D

It's light and airy, has zinc in it (which is one of the few ingredients that actually work on me) and doesn't make me all greasy by noon.

ALSO, It actually works.  I don't know how many sunblocks I bought throughout the years that didn't.I turn pink easily.  I was surprised by this sunblock.

Does Botanical Science have a minimum and can you purchase samples from them?

NOpe.  They will send you free samples too.  I love them.  I can't speak highly enough about them.  The sunblock is not thick and heavy and I've had a hard time over using it :D

Thanks I looked at their whole product line and I am also very interested in retailing their products I am currently using skin script and while I love the enzymes and many of the retail products I'm not in love with all of the retail and there are not quite enough options so I want to add in another line or two. I contacted bs and I have samples on the way to test out. I'm super excited I really hope they are a good fit! The order form is a little confusing are you able to order just one of a product or do you have to order at least six? What are your favorite products in the line besides the sunscreen? Also with the labeling do you print out your own and how expensive is to to make labels? Sorry for so many questions lol

New to BS, Amy & a few others on this board really got me hooked, LOVE the line, with a few exceptions, no 6 minimum.  I use Clear address labels, so cheap [labels have a shine, I cannot find a Matte version, id prefer] see pic. www. 123print.com 500 for about $25, you can upload your own logo & add your name, enlarge it to fit full label, customize it, proof it & send it to print. easy peezy....If you want specific product advice, inbox me & I will offer my opinion, customers LOVE the pricing & buy more, I was using Pevonia & the prices skyrocketed, retail halted,  a great Botanical alternative. My average sale is over $100, if they buy a 4 step regimen I throw in the toner at NC on a first buy promo.

I call my line Pura- Botanica to represent pure botanicals..............

As far as BS sunblock, I like Image a bit better, especially the tinted, again no quantity minimums like $100 order min......low pricing................

Thanks for the reply I just noticed it was there. So far I am really loving the samples they sent me especially the retinol night creme! I'm not quite sure about how to inbox but I will figure it out because I would really like to hear more specifics about individual products. I really like your clear labels and the pricing is much better than the company that they recommend!
