Hi All!!!
I am a massage therapist mostly (9 years now), secondly an esthetician (2 years). I work part time at a salon and of course I am by myself so I have no one to learn from. There are 2 cosmetologists and a new one coming in. Its a small town and not many places offering facials around. My problem is most of the clients coming in, as well as the cosmetologists, think there should be 'more' happening in a facial. They are expecting something spectacular to happen, something special. I use the Lelexo product line, which I am happy with. Cleanse (2 times), tone, exfoliate, mask and steam if needed, massage. While the mask is sitting I work on another body part, usually arms/hands. I have a hand held microdermabrasion and spatula that I usually forget to use. The owner and I recently went to another very popular salon for facials to see what they do. She was not impressed at all. Said they didn't do anything spectacular either. How do I explain that there will be no 'bells and whistles' happening?? Am I missing something?

Gotta love when people expect you to make them look 10 years younger after a facial haha! First off, how long is the facial? Do you offer several kinds? If folks are requesting the "bells and whistles" why not give them that?
Sometimes all it takes is considering the details. Is the bed heated and cozy? Is there relaxing music and mood lighting? Do you use heated booties and mitts ? have water waiting after facial? Are you retailing products after the facial and explaining to clients that results only come with at home use? its the details that will wow them, AND keep them coming back:))
I do have the heated table, music and water afterwards, even a little peppermint pattie. I do a little retailing afterwards, even talking about the products during if they ask or if they mention something before hand. My facials usually last an hour. I haven't gotten into different kinds yet. We have been using this new line about 6 months and I didn't want to start the peels coming into summer months when I am the slowest and they are most likely to get sun exposure.
I was looking at getting the jade stones for cooling afterwards. I would also like to get one of the manual tools for extracting. They used one on me during my last facial and it felt kinda cool and really cleared up the blackheads on my nose.
Again, I am new and I have lots and lots to learn.
Hi Michelle,
Get some results with facials take time and customers are expecting miracles. I use always as a part of the diagnostic a lamp of wood and take pictures(or use a mirror)and when they see the condition of their skin they want facials and products for skin care !!!
Hello,, you should create.. your own bells & whistles into your facials to stand out. I am also a Massage Therapist and an Esthetician. I always offer a little extra with my facials.. and they often don't even realize it but they know it just feels good. I do a little acupressure technique on the face and include a great aromatherapy scalp massage! Even offering a sample of any products you are using is a little something extra that might stand out from the rest. Good Luck!
