Hello everyone! I am new to this career, just got my license in April of this year. i am working in a small yet amazing salon, but would love any word of advice on any topic really. I'm on my own here, being the only esthetician, so everyone counts on me for their skin care needs. I would love to have some feedback on products, chemical peels, new techniques..

my fellow estie's can you help me!?

Hi Shawndra,

I've been an Esthetician for several years and started my own salon; I sold it for a profit and now I work out of my home. I have researched numerous product lines and prefer Image Skin Care. Check them out. I love their products and since I switched to that line, my clients have really noticed a difference in their skin and so have I!

JM

Thank you so much for your feedback! does Image Skin care have any chemical peels? i havent used any peels yet, and honestly i'm a little nervous about them. Clients have been asking, and i need to come up with one soon.
Congratulations! I'm in my 24th year in this industry and still love it as much today as when I started. Besides still owning a skincare center, I spend much of my time helping other Estheticians getting started and/or growing their existing businesses. Please contact me if there is any way I can be of help to you....Shelley

Thanks Shelley! i'm looking forward to expanding my services and treatments! I'm already getting regualrs, so i know i'm doing something right =) but i'm interested in other treatments! i havent done any chemical peels yet. the salon i work at doesnt provide me with product, so i need to make my own judgment on product. right now i'm using Bioelements because that's what my school kit consisted of.. I'm trying to finding new product that's affordable and yet effective.

if you have any feedback, i'd really appriciate it! thanks!, shawndra!

Hi Shawndra,

Yes, Image Skin Care does have peels. Love those too!

which do you like the most?

Hello Shawndra,   I"m a fairly new esthetician as well and I found a fantastic product line where the owner is a 30 medical esthetician and she has a training center as well.  She has peels and runs specials on her fantastic products all the time.  She is also available to answer any questions or problems you may be having with any clients. The company is Skin Deep Cosemecuticals.  I sell the products to my clients when they are on sale half price and this has been very profitable for me.  It's great stuff and I'm seeing amazing results from my clients.

Also, I ran a special on livingsocial.com back in Dec.  I did so well that the first weekend I've had off was July 4th.  I have a lot of return business by offering more specials.  Everyone wants a deal in this economy and as long as I'm busy I'm happy.   I do keep all my money as I work for myself so that might not suit you.

Good luck,

Kandis

Check out dermalogica.

No they are not perfect, but they have a great line of products, great education system, their prices are reasonable, margin is 50%, and everybody knows it.

Dont need to purchase the whole line, if you can afford a Retail account, start with the professional discount they offer, your margin will be smaller but you will be able to start, as you grow get an account. If you can get an account from start even better, that way you can start taking advantage of their training system. Also, tons of schools teach their students with dermalogica.

Hello-

I have just started my own business after graduating in May. Yes it's been tough as i knew it would. I live at the beach so lots of people come through this town. Did ok with tourist, now trying to build clientelle on off season. I started with Rhonda Allison...love the products, but VERY expensive! I need to try another line less expensive. I am planning on doing a big Pumpkin Peel promotion for Oct. and Nov. Anyone have any products they would reccommend with a good pumpkin line?  My husband is making this hard on me thinking I should be doing much better. I am trying to start doing some mobile as well. I think I am going to love this site.  Smiles...

Cam,

I love Rhonda Allison as well, but I get your point about it being rather on the pricey side.

The Image products are fairly reasonably priced at both wholesale and retail, and you would be hard-pressed to find a better line in terms of effectiveness, elegance of use.  People just LOVE this line.  They have four basic lines.  Organic (OrMedic), Hydrating (Vital-C), Aging (Ageless), Acne (Clear Cell), and their "moisturizers" are spf, smell divine, and go on great.  They also have a body line, with a self-tanner, body scrub, and cellulite "lifting" creme...

Cam- I also use IMAGE. it's GREAT. verrry effective and reasonable and great for start-ups like ourselves b/c there is NO minimum order. I understand the frustration of not getting off to a booming start like we always imagine we will..... LOL hang in there!!

As for Pumpkin- check out Skin Scripts (www.skinscriptrx.com) another great line- extraordinarily reasonable- no minimums- and ONE PRICE shipping!! LOVE that!! They just came out with a seasonal Harvest Blend enzyme that sounds awesome.

Here in Ohio they hog-tie us with ridiculously high pH requirements, so I can't use much of what Skin Scripts offers- which STINKS!!- but they are a great line.
