One of my clients has submitted a proposal to me regarding taking my business to another level. She offered to help me at the rate of $600.00 per month + 5% of any revenue that comes in as a result of her services. She wants to help me look into funds, etc. Advertising and so forth. This is a little scary to me. Help me out, would you do this? Any suggestions

I am a firm believer in growth and development, and I actually have a budget for that both personally and professionally, but this is not something I would invest in myself. The red flag for me is the 5% of any additional revenue.
Her fee is what it is based on what her market will pay or what she believes they will pay. Have you gotten references with documented results from her clients? I have colleagues that pay $1000 per month for coaching, but their income is substantially higher than a regular esti. There are fabulous coaches and people who help you create a " business identity" for $150 an hour and entire coaching programs for a couple of hundred a month. I am actually seriously considering starting one, a great coach isn't one who will tell you what to do or not to do, but will help you unlock the talents you have inside and connect you to others who have strengths in your weakest areas. If you would like a recommendation for one who can work with you by phone, send me a message and I will get you her information. She is $150 hr and I think has project rates. Many happy clients too!
NO.
I would research some of the industry coaches/consultants who have a proven track record and invest my money there.
Were you looking to "take your business to the next level"? Or did she approach YOU?
I personally would not. $600 per MONTH!? Nah, i'd give it a pass... UNLESS she could give you at least four references where her clientele had increased their income SIGNIFICANTLY (by 6K per month,)...
Nondy
So I'm still bothered by this...
$600/month is $7200/yr
Let's say you make another $10k. for the year...you would end up paying your "consultant" $7700...which will net YOU about $2300.
Thelma - you can do better than this on your own.
Start thinking about some low cost marketing ideas...promos, events, etc.,,beef up your website and facebook presence.
Think about how you can reach more people, how you can retain the people you have, how you can gain the education you might need to expand your services.
You can do this!
Start networking more with your peers, use some of THEIR ideas (free).
If you STILL need an extra push THEN go out and hire someone...but still hire someone IN the industry.
Thanks very much for your input fellow aestheticians, I want to get out of this in a kind way. She probably is jumping on this new band wagon of coaching. I mentioned to her that I was not in the income bracket to pay that kind of money. She mentions "good faith" ten dollars per month. Your e mails have encouraged me to know that this is not the way I need to go. I just have to find a diplomatic way of bowing out. I have signed nothing,
Thanks again
$600 a month is a steal, but I wonder what her experience is. If it were me, I'd charge $1200 a day (coaching days only), and, frankly, if she is taking your business to the next level, 5% is nothing. I'd ask for 25-30%, of PROVABLE increase year-over-year (I don't ask for this, I'm just saying).
I don't agree automatically that you can do this yourself, and it is absolutely true that coaching and/or consulting can really help some people skyrocket their success. Like another commenter, I continually reinvest in myself despite the fact that I also do teaching/training, coaching, and consulting. And all of these are different. A good coach or consultant will do whatever of these, or even other types of modalities, are best for YOU. At the appropriate frequency, at the appropriate times, according to your needs.
What I would do is find out about this person's capabilities. It's weird to me that she's a client and now wants to help you grow your business. But on the other hand, even I go to other Estheticians for my treatments; some of them, so I suppose a client might have the ability to help you out; I just don't know how. Please let us know what happens. . . .I'm dying to know.
The operative word is provable. In speaking with my fellow aestheticians over the past months. I am not ready to gamble. That is an outrageous fee, with no guaranteed resolves. Talk is cheap. Thanks for your thoughts.
Regards
