If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can check out Square.  I have not used it, but I know some folks who do and they swear by it.  You purchase the gadget for 9.99, which you get back when you download the app and register.  No contracts, no monthly fee, just 2.75% per transaction.  Check it out at the Apple website.  

You can also check out Intuit GoPayment.  Their reader and app works for different smartphones.  Same deal:  no contracts, no monthly fee, and nominal fee per swipe.  And it interfaces with Quickbooks.

square... period!  I have been in the business for 21 years, and used alot of companies.  The equipment is FREE, no contract, no monthly fees.  Only a % on what you use.  And they do not deduct once a month.  As you have a deposit, they deduct the fee from each transaction.  The best.

Do you know if they have insurance? Most companies I looked into do not have fraud insurance. i.e. if someone hacks the system you are responsible for paying your clients back the money that was stolen.

I love the Square.  It's no nonsense and you get your money pretty fast.  NO messing around.

I got the square free from a trade show in Las Vegas it works great they had buckets full giving them away free <3 Square

Ditto on the square.  Super simple. can enter with or without card being present. Fee is a bit more without card. No cost for the set up or the square itself.
