Hi ladies, I just bought a HF machine (hand held). Would any of you be willing to give me a small break down of what my acne facial protocol would like. I am not sure where to incorporate it. Also, do you charge more for the treatment with HF? If so, how much?

Thank you!!

I use this after any extractions that I do to kill the bacteria (this would be the method of sparking where you hold it just over an area), then for clients that are really dry I might use the penetration method to penetrate a hydrating mask or serum.  I don't charge any extra for it and only use it as needed.  You really will notice a difference or I shoudl say the client will.  If I ever spark myself I will notice the area gets a little bigger but the next day is calm.  You can also use the penetration method post waxing if there is any redness or bumps and it will calm the skin down.

Thx Sheila, this is helpful. I bought a basic hand held that only has one dial, low or high, no penetration method. Do you zap the area with any liquid on the face or is the face dry?

You zap dry or I do at least.  You don't need a penetration method, you simply put a serum or mask on the face, and put the HF to the face and then turn it on while moving the HF in a circular motion or you can also have it on and put on your hand first and then slide to the clients face.  Does that make sense?  Hope so :).

and in the penetration method, that is when I would put a serum on the face.

no liquid on the face.  you should use gauze to wrap the electrode, or put the gauze on the face, which serves to create a tiny space between the electrode and the skin

Gauze? Ok I have not tried with gauze. What works best with gauze or with a mask? How long do you leave on the face? Do you just massage for a few seconds in the area you are working on? Is there a time when you would use on the whole face, such as in an anti-age facial?

I have never used the gauze method myself and I am not sure that i know of that method.  I just out the mask on and lightly massage around for a few minutes on the whole face.  Now if it's acne that I am sparking I just spark those specific spots.

Ok Sheila, I think I have it down. So if it is an anti-age facial I can put on a mask, use maybe the mushroom head and massage around for a few minutes? Then for acne, take the pointed tip and zap just the acne spot? With no liquid?

YUP!!  And it doesn't have to be anti aging, could be dry skin too or if someone has acne but their skin appears to be dry.  That was how my sisters skin was...I used it to zap after I extracted her and then I used to penetrate a hydrating serum to get some hydration into her skin too.  I like those exact pieces you are  referring to and I never use any others :).

You can also use it, and this is crazy to me and soo onot for me, but I believe the piece that has the wire in it and looks like a comb...I think the client holds that and you can run your fingers through their hair for a scalp massage.  I never have done it but saw it done in school.

Awesome Sheila, thank you!! Can't wait to try it out : )

what do you mean by "penetration method"?

I was taught in school that you can use the HF to penetrate water based products, it's not a setting on the HF but a technique
