@Cat - I agree that milk can exacerbate acne but it's certainly not the cause.  Acne is an inherited condition of the pores which is the cause.  I have lots of article on my website, including what foods I believe make acne worse.

Has anyone ever considered suggesting to their clients to change their diet?

I found this article intriguing: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/do-milk-and-sugar-cause...

@Sally - you know, I am going to take that back.  I thought I saw somewhere that vit E was comedogenic.   I was doing research today and it looks like I'm wrong.  I'll keep looking to make sure...

Hi Laura. Can you comment further about not using Vitamin E topically?

@Sheila - I don't know what you mean by a "straight formula". Can you clarify that for me.  I am using a water-based formulas of 2.5%, 5% and 10% bpo.  For vitamins, you just have to look at the list of what's in it.  Almost all of them contain iodides.  Two that don't are Dermavites and Women's Ultra Mega from GNC.

Sorry, don't know about panthenoic acid or vitamin e.  Make sure and do not use vitamin e topically!

Is the BPO you are referring to a straight formula or anything that contains at least 2.5%?  Do you have any vitamins off hand that you would stay away from or will it say that it contains iodides?  I sent this information over to her.  I have noticed the zinc has really helped my skin.  What about Panthenoic Acid?  I had heard that helps as well and vitamin E.  Any thoughts?  Thanks Laura!

@Sheila - she needs to get on benzoyl peroxide on a regular basis.  Start her off on a 2.5% noncomedogenic formula (water based as well) and have her wear it 15 minutes a day, then wash off and put on a noncomedogenic moisturizer.  Double the wearing time every 4th day.  When she gets up to 2 hours for 3 days in a row, she will then wear it overnight without any moisturizer.

She also needs a good antibacterial serum like mandelic (which is also skin rejuvenating).  Supplements like zinc monomethionine and omega 3 fish oils are also good for hormonal acne.  Most vitamins contain iodides which will make her inflammation way worse.

Hope this helps!  For more free info, go to my website:

@Cheryl - milia is a tough one to treat (but milia and closed comedones are not the same thing).  I don't think you can get rid of mila without extracting them.  A good exfoliant like glycolic, mandelic or vitamin a propionate can help to keep them at bay.  If you are treating closed comedones, then you definitely need vitamin a propionate and bpo (used correctly).

@Deborah - When milia is really close to the eye, you have to use your own good judgment.  Sometimes I can get them, sometimes not.  If not, refer them out - it's not really our job to get them out...

Glad you are enjoying the training materials!

Laura I too had a client today-she had milia (?) on her lower lid just under the rim of eye, I was a little hesitant to do them and suggested a derm. She insisted she has done them herself in the past (over 60 but couldn't see well enough anymore) so I did try, one with the tiny needle, and another with covered fingers, had to remove my gloves even though they are a tight fit.  she seemed upset when I saw her at the front desk after her trip to bathroom, receptionist was busy and next thing she knew the woman had gone. I had tolder her when she made the appointment I wasn't certain I could do them depending on how close to the eye they were. She had a few blackheads that I took care of, Used PCA detox gel under steam to soften but did not use on eye area. When I run into that again-what's your take.

Also, really learning alot, started the first DVD but just reading for now after sugg. to print out. Just so much detailed info it's awesome.

Hi Laura. Wondering about mila. When it is all over the face and forehead. My client has oily tzone and dry the rest of the face. Is the closed comedones more prone with the dry skin types because of the smaller pores Would this skin type need more hydration and moisture as well as exfoliating to keep the mila at bay. Any in put would be helpful Thanks Everyone.
